We`ve all bought a bad one at some time, don`t get despondent just keep pushing on, you have a good basis to make the slabbie good.

I think you nailed it when you said it’s a double edge sword. That can be a very narrow gap! It will all work out for you I hope.
@true-moto-resto6 ай бұрын
Hi Don, yea, it will work out fine, it’s the right Combination of functional but a bit scabby. I’m just not used to sacrificing bikes, I’m usually trying to save them LOL

Menudo motorazo le vas a poner, la Gsxr va a quedar fabulosa y si puedes aprovechar algunas piezas de la bandit, estupendo. Gracias por el vídeo y deseando ver más avances

I'd be tempted to swap the front suspension and 17" wheels from the Bandit to the GSXR.
@true-moto-resto6 ай бұрын
Yea, thought about it, however the triple clamps wont take the bandit forks and the bandit triples won’t work in the GSXR. Also the swing arm likely needs modification to fit. More than I want to take on with this one. I’ll call it a victory if I get the B12 in and running

A good friend and I put a mildly tuned 1127 engine from a 1990 GSX-R1100 L into his 85 frame, the results weren't the best, the frame is far too spindly to handle the power and torque, it flexed quite a lot. and the issue was highlighted further when he upgraded the suspension F & R with later model forks and wheels. Also the added height of the engine made getting the cam cover off a nightmare. He ended up rebuilding the original 85 engine, and putting the 1127 into the far superior 91 750 frame.

Things to look forward to, I guess. My 750 engine was far too bad to rebuild and I’m neck deep in this 1200 now, so we will see how it fares.

Don’t be hard on yourself, you’re doing a great job, and I’m really looking forward to following the build as I have been from the start. Going the resto-mod route will give you the freedom to really do you want without the angst that doing a back to standard restoration always brings. I have a good sized workshop ( not a big as yours mind ) but with fuel costs as they currently are and being constructed of brick with a tiled roof it’s very expensive to keep warm. Winter here in the UK is nothing like where you are but even so it’s cold enough to keep me away from working on my bikes as I would like. I’m guessing your workshop is very well insulated but can I ask what method of heating you use and are fuel costs more reasonable in Canada?
@true-moto-resto6 ай бұрын
Hi there!! Thanks !! Fuel costs are expensive here, but compared to other places I’m not sure. More expensive than the USA but cheaper than the UK I would say. I use liquid propane heaters in the garage. We are too remote / rural for natural gas to be available so the natural gas heaters and furnaces are converted to propane which is currently .82 cents a litre. The garage is insulated

Im really enjoying this build series. It wouldnt be a Bandit if the petcock didn't fail and the carbs get flooded with fuel. Im sure by now you've had it all apart and rebuilt, but im curious to see what other 'bandit bodges' you discover. There seems to be a higher than average number of self-appointed 'experts' within the Bandit world I've found (though helpfully also a really friendly bunch of actual experts in the mix too)

As you may see in the next series, the carbs that were supposedly rebuilt were awful. They had old and hard orings , floats set wrong, needles and seats leaking, missing parts above the needles - needless to say the needed a full rebuild

@@true-moto-resto I had very much the same issue with my first Bandit too. Worth the effort though, they're such brilliant engines when they're running well.

Oddly, I just fired up my other 1200 bandit just now. On Tuesday it started perfectly (1st time since last September), it had been on the Center stand. Today it started up on 2 cyl, then 3but cyl#1 was dead. Only difference was it had been in the side stand for a day or two. I suspect carb #1 is leaking fuel. It was popping pretty good once it got heat in the other 3 pipes and the collector. Likely popping off unburned fuel. Oh well, more work to do maybe another carb rebuild is needed
@stum450n3 ай бұрын
@@true-moto-resto that's a shame. Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what fuel is like out in Canada but here in the UK even within the space of a couple of weeks it can cause running issues if a bikes not being used. It separates and clogs up the pilot jets with jelly.
@true-moto-resto3 ай бұрын
Yea, not bad here, all my bikes have stabilizer and most have ethanol free fuel. This is for sure a carb puking too much fuel. No big deal, ill get it sorted out

This is a fun Skoal Bandit build to follow. Have you considered a GSX-R1100 intake camshaft swap to wake up the Bandit 1200 engine as it revs?
@true-moto-resto6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, No, I’ll be leaving the stock 1200. I’m already over planned budget so I need to watch the spend now
