The pregnant lady sticker was from a Cincinnati radio station who used to host a bikini contest for pregnant women every year the friday before mothers day. They called it the "Miss Morning Sickness Pageant". Me and alot of the guys i used to work with went to them every year until 2011 when they stopped doing them. They were absolute blasts to attend. Obviously the owner of the Riviera went as well!!!

1987 Buick Riviera: The official car of every Midwestern newly divorced dad still grabbing onto the last bit of coolness that died the day after high school graduation. These cars came with factory installed cigarette smoke odor caked into the headliner. Edit: OMG...I can't believe Veronica just said that. Growing up, a friend's dad, who drove this almost exact same car and color, was arrested and jailed on tax evasion charges. Unreal and good call!!!

The family rented one on our trip to New Orleans back in 1986. It was insanely cool. The car was a darker classic 80's GM maroon color and vinyl top. I recall being blown away by the felt-like surface on practically everything. I remember thinking as a 14 year old, that the car needed alloy wheels like our family 86' Olds 88.

That's actually not a 3800, it's the old 3.8L. It began its life as a Buick aluminum V-8 from the early 60's. Buick wanted a cheaper engine for the Skylark (or Special), so they chopped two cylinders off and cast the block in steel. Buick later sold the V-8 to Rover, and the V-6 to Jeep. During the fuel crisis of the 70's, Buick bought the V-6 back from AMC. The 3800 came out for 1988 and was a completely new design. The Series2 came out in 1995, and was again a completely new design. The Series3 was just a Series2 with upgrades. The intake gaskets were never a problem until GM started using long-life Dex-cool.

The sticker on the gas cap is the logo for "Independent Truck Co." which is a brand of skateboard trucks which was established back in the late 70s and is still active today. So there's a big possibility that the previous owner was a skater back in his/her youth.

I remember these well - the prerequisite for buying this new was you had to be a 48 year old chain smoking spinster aunt with a “reasonably successful” career. Nobody else bought these. Ironically, the owner of this car has the EXACT look of the average Riviera owner 35 years ago - well done!!

Honestly, the most impressive thing about that touch screen isn’t just that it works despite being 20 years older than the iPhone, it’s that it’s actually rather nicely integrated into the front dash. Why could GM pull that off almost 40 years ago with a thicc ass CRT but modern designers gorilla glue a tablet on top of the dash and call it job done?

Another very unique feature on this Riv that wasn't mentioned in the video is the fact that the license plate slides into place from inside the trunk. Therefore, it can't be removed (or stolen) from outside the car. Also, if you look closely at the rear shot of the car, the license plate has no screws because it doesn't need them. The screens in this car is something the likes of Doug Demuro would make fun of relentlessly but they are so fascinating to me with how ahead of its time they were. An otherwise boring box of wheels with fully fledged capacitive touch screens inside in a year where computers with only keyboard inputs cost thoudands of dollars.

My Grandma had one of these in my childhood. Remember her driving me to the gas station I ordered her smokes and I would point out to the car when the attendant questioned me. Remember the doors were heavy as shit, thought the digital dash was cool at the time. Inside of the car wreaked of cigs and Pepsi and everything felt sticky. Car felt like a boat for a two door.

The radio even has C-Quam AM Stereo! Switch on the AM ST function to enable it. It will also make stations that aren't broadcasting in AM Stereo sound better.

I've had 2 90s rivieras at 29 and I'm from Montana with an active lifestyle. I purchased both voluntarily. They just don't die. Hammer down washboard dirt roads better than a pickup, high speed cruiser from getting from town to town (mine had the supercharger) surprisingly good at camping off the beaten path in the summer and going backcountry skiing in the winter. Got good gas milage and were incredibly comfortable. I even ran over an elk carcass in a blizzard once and it didn't loose control or have any serious damage. Both cars I bought for less than a grand and they just lasted. Everybody's complaining about "oh no, no more cheap cars" but those people don't want to shop Buick because "old people" or whatever and it's silly

@@Iamthestig42069 quite a few of the Buicks had solid, reliable engines in them...couple that with how they were generally well cared by their owners and how gently they were driven, they often make very good used cars for both younger and older drivers. The Buick Grand National was/is quite sporty.

@@Iamthestig42069 i did just that and bought a 06 Buick lucerne recently. only had 91k miles on on it and has the 3800 in it. Starting to become one of my favorite cars ive ever owned. EVERYONE is sleeping on used Buicks but right now they are probably the best bang for your buck. And since most were owned by seniors they weren't modded to hell and revved to the moon like your Hondas or Toyotas. Thats pretty much what made me look for a Buick.

The 3.8 v6, they never got the intake/gaskets right. They made them for 30 years and never fixed it.

Had nothing to do with the gaskets. It became a problem when GM started using long-life Dec-cool engine coolant around 1995. The Chevy V-6's had the same issue as the Buick 3800. Flush out the Dex-cool often, or go green coolant.

@@bmerlin376 Well, it was also the EGR setup in the Series II. They ran a piping hot metal EGR pipe through the plastic intake manifold. This melted the plastic during normal engine operations and caused the manifold and its gaskets to fail. They went back to a metal intake manifold for the Series III to solve that problem. And yes, just about every GM V6 engine had this problem. IIRC it was by far the worst on the 3100 due to the 3 piece intake and the tendency of the leaks to be internal into the engine oil, but the 3100, 3400, 3800, and 4300 all had the problem.

The gaskets leaking had nothing to do with the type of coolant used,the paper gaskets,later on the plastic gaskets just deteriorate from heat and manifold moving and thermal expansion/contractions,aftermarket metal gaskets with rubber seal did mitigate the issue somewhat but not entirely.

Yeah, I had that problem with the 3.4 after 60,000 miles. I was broke in college but found a way to fix it. I think it was 800 bucks.
