Yes. I owned one. I owned a 1969 Cadillac DeVille Convertible - medium blue with a dark blue leather interior. It was my main car for about a decade. I once drove it from Pennsylvania to Arizona and back.

GTI and sportier-spec Golfs in general are cars I theoretically *should* like a lot better than I really seem to. But apart from German lack-of-longevity with all the elctronic boxes lately and stuff, maybe just not inspiring enough: therefore I'm sure I'd modify a bit at least if I came by one. Some generations seem to need more *styling* help than others, many seem to have... sufficient performance more or less, subject to maybe a bit of seasoning to taste. I'd probably personalize the looks somewhat, too. Feels like they at least ought to have plaid seats or something. :)

A year later it got totaled by some old dude in a Town Car...and so, I did the smart thing and bought a Super Beetle (dumbest choice I ever made). I like to believe I'd still be driving the Ghia today

The Golf GTI (from Mk1 to Mk8) is literally the car that is over overrepresented in every Cars and Coffee in France and maybe in Europe, with the E36, E46, the Renault RS, etc... But it is categorized as a boring hothatch, and everybody has enough of seeing, the same car with the same tune, the same loud DSG-fart, all that thing to be surpassed by a Civic type-R or a Megane RS in every corner.

My 2016 GTI S 6MT was one of my favorite cars I ever owned. In my 5 years of ownership all I did were ST XTA Coilovers and wheels, no tune, no exhaust, no anything else. It was a fantastic car, and in my biased opinion, it didn't deserve to be on the race to the bottom, especially if scene people like PA dubbers are the reason why. By that logic, a Subaru should be next in the series because 90% of Subaru owners these days are just insufferable

Hey, the Michelin Crossclimate 2 are the best all season tires you can get in the mid range market. Great tires if you don't want to switch tires on your daily every 6 months, and 3PMSF are mandatory where you live. Of course they don't belong on a hot car like the GTI though. With that you'd go with a set of Pilot Sports 4+ and another of Alpine 6+.

That’s crazy, I went from a CRZ to a GTI as well.. they are great especially for long commutes.. comfy, decent power, decent mpg, good interior, handles great.. but yes they can be quite bland

How are michelin cross climates bad tires. Literally the best rated tire on tire rack by a million miles. Wife's minivan has them. Been flawless

Yo, the Michellin CrossClimates are _fantastic_ tires, if you don't want to swap summer/winter. They're not performance tires, but they are pretty good in the dry _with_ a real 3peak snow rating.

I had a girlfriend who had a 1986(?) Golf. It had the 1.8l engine with a stick. I loved driving that car. Crisp shifter, enough power to merge onto a highway. It was a jack of all trades, master at none sort of car. It was a fun car to "throw around". It had enough room to throw in a couple of friends and our beach crap and head to the shore.
