不朽の名作「グラディウス」の正式な続編となるのが「グラディウスII」である。 「グラディウス」「沙羅曼蛇」という流れの中で、そのノウハウをここに集約し、充実した完成度を誇る。 今回はパワーアップの異なる4つのタイプから自機をセレクトできるようになっている。 操作方法は8方向レバーで移動、パワーアップ、ショット、ミサイルに3つのボタンを使用する。 全8ステージでループ。
ストーリー:
今から2年前、惑星グラディウスは突如として現れたバクテリアンからの攻撃にさらされていた。 苦戦を強いられていたグラディウス軍は、最後の手段として超時空戦闘機ビックバイパーの発進を決意。 敵の真っ只中に飛び込んだビックバイパーは壮絶な死闘の末、 バクテリアンの中枢、要塞ゼロスを壊滅しグラディウスに勝利をもたらした。 そして今、バクテリアンの猛威は再び惑星グラディウスを襲った。 新たなる敵、特殊部隊ゴーファーの攻撃が始まったのだ。

The third game in Konami's renowned Gradius series; the prequel being "Gradius [Model GX400]" and a spinoff called "Salamander [Model GX587]". Gradius II strictly adheres to the shoot-em-up template set out by its hugely successful predecessor, the game eschews the sideways/vertical scrolling alternate levels of Salamander and opts instead for Gradius sideways scrolling-only mechanic. This game is rightly considered to be one of the most demanding and difficult shoot-em-ups ever released.

この頃のKONAMIは音楽も神憑っていた。サントラ買ってメロディをリコーダーで吹けるほどに何度も聴いた笑 MSX版、X68K版とまた違ったグラディウスIIがあって、KONAMIのゲームに対する本気度が感じ取れる本当に良い時代だった

GRADIUS II for me is the 3rd best gradius game after Gaiden (1st) and V (2nd).

タイトル画面右下に自分の名前。遥か昔グラⅢ採用案件、裏ロムでなく裏基板です。採用者は確か8人位だった記憶。間違いでしたら訂正します。

As someone who owns plenty of Gradius, from NES, to SNES, to Gameboy, to PS1, to Saturn, to PSP, to PS2, this one is my fourth favorite Gradius title (1. Gradius Gaiden, 2. Gradius III, 3. Gradius IV, yeah that one, 4. this one here). To me the second to final Gradius release, Gradius V, didn't feel as enjoyable, yet Gradius Rebirth felt like a return to true Gradius form with the traditions, like the Moai heads, returning. V felt far too mechanical to me, even though it did have a bio level in it ala the old Gradius titles, and the Salamander games (the one of a few traditions it kept, besides boss rush). My Gradius games: 1) Gradius NES 2) Life Force NES 3) Gradius 3 SNES 4) Gradius Deluxe Pack PS1 5) Gradius Deluxe Pack Saturn 6) Salamander Deluxe Pack PS1 7) Salamander Deluxe Pack Saturn 8) Gradius Gaiden PS1 9) Gradius Collection PSP 10) Gradius II PCE CD 11) Nemesis GB 12) Gradius Interstellar Assault GB 13) Konami Arcade Hits DS (has Nemesis on it, and Gradius, depends on language setting) 14) Gradius V PS2 15) Gradius III/IV PS2 16) Konami MSX Antiques Saturn (has the MSX Gradius and Salamander games on it) 17) Salamander Portable PSP (hello smooth Gradius scrolling Gradius II MSX 18) Gradius Rebirth Wii 19) Gradius Galaxies GBA I also have the Parodius games in a few formats as well, including all of them on Saturn, even the MSX original on the MSX pack on the Saturn. Those after all are pretty much Gradius parodies. The first 2 arcade ones on SFC, first 3 games (Jikkyou Oshaberi included) on PS1, and all 5 on Saturn. One day I will make the FC and Gameboy ones mine as well, just not sure when.

I can say I have plenty of Gradius II in my house, PSP (the one US console/handheld release, pretty much the PS1 version right down to the Now Loading screen at the start), PS1, Saturn, and PCE CD versions, all that's missing is the FC version. There's also an X68K port, but X68K's are hella expensive. There's a Gradius II on Gameboy as well, but a far different game from this one.

GAME: "Destroy them all!" ME: "NO SHIT!?!" GAME: "Destroy the core!" ME: "NO SHIT!?!" GAME: "Shoot it in the eye!" ME: "NO SHIT!?!" GAME: "Shoot it in the mouth." ME: "NO SHIT!?!" I hated how the Gradius games started to think we were so stupid, we wouldn't know where to shoot. That voice was, by far, MUCH WORSE than Navi from Ocarina of Time. The first Gradius (for the NES) and Gradius III were EQUALLY the best, in my humble opinion. Mainly, because they didn't treat us as if we were idiots! GAME: "Destroy the core!" ME: "Really? Well, it's a good thing you said that! Because, I was thinking about CONTINUING to shoot at the completely unguarded and indestructible exterior of that ship! I never would have thought to shoot at the ONLY DIFFERENT THING on the enemy, which is hiding behind the destructible plates. Boy, I sure am stupid! D'oh, d'oh, durr!" GAME: "Shoot it in the eye!" ME: "The eye? What eye? I don't see no eye! Oh, THAT eye? Nah! I'll just shoot it in those weird "hand-things" which are reaching out to get me! I wasn't able to destroy the ones earlier in the game; but, THESE two look like I can destroy them! And, if THAT doesn't work, I think I'll shoot it in the completely indestructible brain-matter for a while. I mean, BRAINS versus BULLETS? Something's gotta give sooner or later!" GAME: "Destroy them all!" ME: "WHAT?!?! Are you crazy? That can't POSSIBLY be the objective, can it? Because, I was thinking of just sitting here doing NOTHING and allowing the enemy to kill me. Good thing you told me to destroy them all! I NEVER would have figured that one out on my own. There I go being stupid, again! Hurr, durr, hurr-ma-durr!"
