I was there for this race, it was an incredible drive by Will & a much deserved win. RIP Murray, your commentary brings back memories of this great day.

Hi kpnut59. I was there too! I was 20yrs old at the time and went with a mate. Great day! We used to go all over to see those retired Group B cars.😀

The best Era in rally cross.. Late 80's early 90's were the golden years those left over group b cars really made some excellent races.. A Era never to be seen again...

I WAS THERE !!!!!!!!! As i type this in one months time i will have been addicted to Rallycross for thirty years !! I got my latest fix today at Silverstone, The British Rallycross Championship Final and the racing is as good today as it was back then.

i was marshalling at top of druids that day. The 1st time we saw the BMW coming up the hill we started to go for the fire extinguishers cos of all the smoke coming from it. but it was just wheelspin, even though 4x4. insanely quick in a straight line.

So was I. It was cold and getting very dark, but what a race, so pleased to find this. Probably the most exciting race I've ever seen. Massive fan of Will Gollop and wanted him to win so when he got a flat we had no idea what would happen.

@ 5.44 -5.48 Schankes car seems to blow out 'extra' amount of flames. Wonder if anything happend there since he seems to loose power afterwards ?

watching these old rallycross videos....and cant get my head around....how much potential that escort mk3-4 had in them....gets me thinking that rs200 was maybe one of the biggest rally mistakes ford could have done

Will Gollop built a 'new' 6R4 for this event and the 1989 European season , his 'old' 6R4 was driven at this event by Tiff Needell using the number 48, this car has recently been restored to the condition it was in at this 1988 RX GP.

Did something happen with Schanches car? Its not like him to suddenly loose that amount of lead? Great race!

I think grip was a problem for the over powered cars. Schanche's RS200 and the M3 were both putting out at least 200 bhp more than Gollop, but they just couldn't get it to translate in to grip. Gollop was dialled through the corners in power drift mode and the M3 looked like it was RWD at times.

Martin lost a motor mount in that race, so he almost damaged his car seriously on that last lap 😄 Love the cars from that era, that were fun times!

from watching, rs200 had 650bhp, bmw m3 had 700bhp, metro had 414bhp, excellent driving from will.

Most of the cars were independently developed. Gollops 6R4 had a custom built de-stroked engine (2.3 litre) with 2 turbos for example.

These cars are now sadly offered by chancers for ridiculous money. Most buyers dont realise that none of these cars are 'original' as seen here. Theyve all been reshelled several times with absolutely no original components left. All theyre buying is some paperwork. A fool and his money..

@@TheBlaert oh I know , my mates work colleague is on record owning a very famous GPB 6r4 . It was a Rothmans car for starters and when sold it got bought by a well known rallycross driver who won the British Rallycross Championship in the same car , well worth buying for the rallycross history but knowing it's a Rothmans car makes it up three with the most valuable when restored . But there's always a jealous fucker who wants one but can't afford it so hits the KZfaq comments bitter as fuck hahahaha 😂

@@bigjohnfury5662 Great stuff. I used to live beside a motorsport circuit in N.Ireland when I was younger and watched a couple of the rallycross men when they were testing and setting up the 6R4's. Shame I didn't have a video camera back then

@@TheSpecky5eyes lol. You need to remember this drivers designed and build their own cars during the week end went racing in the weekends. They also have to invent and make all new upgrades. There was nobody to ask or computers to do the math, and Schanche is still a man today's racers and mechanics go to for tips and tricks to improve their machines. You do not get the name Mr. Rallycross if you're not one of the best in the game.
