A week before the film premiered, 20/20 showcased this segment on the making of Batman. All the usual news bits are here- comparisons to the Adam West show, the offbeat choice of director, and the worries of the fan community due to Keaton's casting. Enjoy!

The 1989 version of Batman is an undying classic that encapsulates finesse, artistry and the timeless battle between good and evil. Other versions since then , in my most humble opinion, are but mere dissections attempting to replicate what Tim Burton, the entire production crew, the incomparable Michael Keaton and all other actors/actresses have successfully accomplished. There is only one Gone With the Wind. There is only one cinematic Batman movie. There is only one Michael Keaton, The Batman. This, my friends, cannot be duplicated. Blessings to all.

navygirlchula I believe Tim Burton made this film the center of all of 'Batman' itself. Its the center of the past, the present and the future. The idea still kick ass today.

daustin8888 Both Batman 89 and Batman Returns did not have intellectual dribble like the Nolan trilogy. Even Joe Schumacher's Buttman Forever had intellectual dribble

daustin8888 People don't go see superhero movies to be talked down at. Watching the Nolan trilogy was like watching a college lecture on philosophy with costumes

The art design and music was just perfect. This movie was like an opera. I'm really happy I got to see it in the theater twice when I was a kid. Thank you for the upload.

A worthy movie to watch anytime. The 1989 Batman Joker. That's the first - and so far only- time a movie villain actually scared me.

Yes I couldn't agree more. Michael Keaton should continue to play Batman again in Batman Forever (1995) and Batman and Robin (1997).

I want to write that my name is Josh Tate and i'm writing that the year 2024 will not only be the 35th anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman film but it will also be Batman 85th anniversary year too.

You know what Michael Keaton always to play Batman in Batman (1989) & Batman returns (1992) but he should continue to played Batman again in Batman forever (1995) & Batman and Robin (1997) not Val Kilmer or George Clooney!!!!!!!!!!!!

CubanPete1990: I couldn't agree more. Joel really should bring Michael back in Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, not Val or George. In fact Tim Burton should get more involved in Joel's Batman movies as Producer, to make them more like sequels and Joel should bring back the original Danny Elfman theme and combine it with the Elliot Goldenthal score.

Keaton attempted to stay in the project but disagreed with Schumacher on the campy tone. He walked away from the project once Joel said "why does everything have to be so dark?" You have to give Michael Keaton credit for respecting the source material and knowing when to walk.
