Surviving Watts”, illustrates the conditions that have created communities of Los Angeles residents who are more and more disconnected from the mainstream of society. Our entry exemplifies KCET's continuing commitment to local, documentary public affairs programming that not only provides context and analysis to reporting on community problems, but gives voice to many diverse ideas and possible solutions."

It's not just about being poor, once you're arrested, you're screwed for life. That's what they should reporting . I'm a white man that's been to prison three times, if it wasn't for my family I'd be fucked ,trying to sell and compete and the cycle continues.. I feel for everyone on this video

I don't agree with you about being screwed once you are arrested - yea it is hard to get a job but you have to keep trying - I have been in and out of jail from the age of 18 to 34 - distribution of cocaine and other felonies on my record - I am 42 years old now and have my own lawncare business that I do in the daytime and work at a restaurant at night - I own a house, 3 sports cars and a bunch of other material crap - but the best thing I have is Jesus Christ in my life - you can overcome anything if you have Jesus Christ in your life and dont give up

I started in Imperial Courts and went to Grape Street Elementary in 1970. In 1989 I was in my last year in the USMC. After college I became a licensed Certified Public Accountant. They don't allow people like me back to talk to the young cats. People make too much money off of poverty. They're "farming" misery. Have the former black President and all of the black millionaires to teach these young black people HOW THEY BECAME RICH. They will never do THAT. Just build more projects and let the people starve for a lack of knowledge. Some of us live in the Hamptons, Beverly Hills and the suburbs, while others live in PROJECTS.

I live in Maryland. The 2 richest predominantly black counties in America. I was born in 88 in the DC area. I’m white, my teachers and principals were black, my doctors were black, and I’d say about half the people I served in the military with were black. I know from experience there is nothing inherently wrong with black people. I see a lot of places made them a permanent underclass, wasting a huge segment of talent and potential.

That's my High School she's standing at in the Intro (John Marshall High) which is located in a Los Angeles suburb called Silverlake, same high school Leonardo DiCaprio attended. Then she starts her report on Watts which is inner city "Ghetto" L.A. Interesting 🙂

@@randomdude5938 Silverlake is pretty vast in size. It Borders Los Feliz to North, and Echo Park to the east. I was specifically describing Marshall H.S. location as a suburb area of L.A. The definition of suburb is defined as "the residential area on the outskirts of a city or large town." So With the high school being only 3 miles away from the city limits & City of Glendale, It definitely fits the classification.
