It's funny watching these old reviews. I feel like a lot of the Japanese cars were considered "outdated" or "confused styling" yet these are the cars you still see on the road today and considered classics.

Yeah, I think they have a bit of a domestic bias. You especially notice it in the '91 SUV comparo, how the hell is an S10 Blazer superior to a 4runner?

flight2k5 Not nearly as well as an old 4x4 SUV. New pickups are for the most part big, bulky, “family car” bro-dozers.

@@joshualaw375 I see your point some what, but, my '15 4Runner TRD Pro would smoke a stock '89 Land Cruiser in any off-road situation. Even the modern Land Cruisers are better.
@joshualaw375
@joshualaw375 4 жыл бұрын
@@billyhughes9776 I don't doubt that, in fact that's not really what I was saying. I was primarily talking about newer pickup trucks. Although they have off-road capabilities, they are not nearly as solidly-built for the task. But I totally agree with you. Toyota has really kept up their superb standards for quality and capability. The biggest issue with newer 4x4s (mainly pickups) is price. When a vehicle costs nearly $60,000 it would be hard to see somebody risking that investment by wheeling it. That's really all I'm saying. :)

I have owned three of these things, an 85, 88 and a 93, each of them had well over 200k miles and they were running strong as hell. In fact the 85 had never had it's engine taken apart with only preventative maintanance done to it. The others were taken apart for modifications, not because it was needed. The engines I had were all 3F, the 93 being fuel injected and all of them were manuals. I loved them so much. I never had any issues that were not caused by my own iresponsability or recklessness. The reviewer said it was a “mediocre" ride on the road, I disagree with that.

The old chevy suburban to old land cruiser ratio is crazy. For every 10 old suburbans, you see one land cruiser. For every 200 of the old land cruisers, you see one old range rover. I would only buy an old range so that i can gut it and replace with an LS engine

In South America you still see 80s, 90s and early 00s Land Cruisers all over the place, the 1984 70 series is still in production to this day with some updates, they are sold in fleets for comercial and industrial operators and for private use both SUV and pickups, a good ol' SUV, no BS, no gimmicks, also the Isuzu D-Max is great option if you want something more modern. 40 series are a hot collectable item nowdays, fully restored to spec or restomod will set you back a pretty penny but spare parts are still abundant.

Wow, 60-0 in only 130ft? That's better than most SUV's today. Yes, today's SUVs are weighted down severely by all that safety nonsense, but still, on 80s tires, to bring down something that large, that quickly, is still impressive.

@Take the red pill I was going to post something to that effect but you beat me to it. They lie about inflation too, it's way higher than they say it is. Inflation is from the FR printing up money out of nothing, giving it to their buddies at the commercial banks which then go buy everything up and all this new money inflates prices. No wonder they try to convince us inflation is lower than it actually is.

If they thought this Land cruiser was big, the 2018 has a wheel base 112.2 and 194.9 length vs the 1989 107 wheel base and 184 length. The 1989 Land cruiser base price is 20k base price, which is $41,616.68 in today's money. It's Doubled in price, but the question is, has it doubled in performance? Maybe. Depending on what you want. Off road, I think it's the same. On road is where we obviously see the difference.
