This 1989 Bucs team was competitive in a lot of games against good teams which was the best they could realistically do in those days because their ownership didn't care about winning.

Wow, amazing finding this, I was at this game, although I was at the wall of the Sombrero ..... I was at the end zone Montana scored. To think this game was left only to my memories. Thanks KZfaq 😊

Gordon McCarter always made strong calls at 5:55 . Even if the call was bad he communicated it crisply and clearly with a booming voice.

Anybody noticed the similarity of sequences between this game and the XXIII Super Bowl? (For the 49ers the only game between these two was the one played a week before this match.) Both games started with teams exchanging field goals and both were 6-6 somewhere around midgame. In both games 49ers had 2 touchdowns and the opponent one, and in both games all touchdowns were scored in the second half. In both games Jerry Rice made his only TD catch in the early going of the last quarter. In SB XXIII Cincinatti takes a 16-13 lead with 3:20 minutes left in the 4th quarter. In this game Tampa takes 16-13 lead with 3:25 left in the 4th quarter. In SB XXIII Joe Montana throws the winning TD with 34 seconds left on the clock. Against Tampa Bay Joe Montana runs for a winning TD with 40 seconds left on the clock. As both extra points were good the score was 20-16 in both games. Both games were played in Florida and both were broadcasted by CBS.

Yes. I Remember saying that before the game was over. After the bucs took the lead 16-13 I was saying the 49ers are going to win this game with a td just like in the super bowl last year.

At the end I thoughf they were going to run the same Montana to Taylor touchdown play they won the SB with previous season.

I remember keeping track of this game via the 10 min ticker. I think they either checked in and showed that last incompletion to rice or somehow said niners we’re facing their last chance (even tho I think it was only 3rd down?) anyway they went back to whatever we were getting shown. Then some time went by and i saw the niners won and didn’t see how til I read the paper the next day at school.

Any chance of getting 1989 week 3 49ers vs Eagles on here? It's a classic
@chriscastillo42753 жыл бұрын
Didn’t we getting royally stomped? Or am I thinking of a diff week 3 or 4 game back then. Remember the Eagles tearing us a new one one of those seasons. Like a 40-3 or 40-8 drubbing

@@chriscastillo4275 No, man, this was Montana's greatest comeback win IMO. There's only a 25 minute highlight on KZfaq, check it out. I'd still love to see the full game. Anybody?

@@johnmckinnon6928 right on👍🏿I just remember Randall and Philly totally eating our lunch one of those years. Might’ve been a few years later like 91 or 92. It was a straight up beat down.

@@johnmckinnon6928 another classic was a Monday night game against the Giants. I think we lost 10-7. Watched it on KZfaq a while back. I think it’s the hardest hitting game I’ve ever seen. Think maybe Jerry gets an early TD, on our first possession I think, and that was it. Great game tho. Every single play there’s crunching + 3 or 4 guys just kamikaze-ing into the pile like missiles. I’ll look it up and post a link in the comments. God bless KZfaq for these games

That last defensive holding call was so bad the league apologized for it. But the Niners would have just kicked a field goal on the next play and the game probably would have gone to overtime. Not sure it cost the Bucs the win.
@RabahRayanNabilEl165 жыл бұрын
Roger Craig was a good RB don't get me wrong but he wasn't a hall of Famer. I've watched so many of these old niner games and he always fumbles, its seems like he's done it in every game I watched, plus he's had holes in the 89 and 90 seasons but his vision was poor, because he would keep bouncing to the outside
@jjames77714 жыл бұрын
His fumble in the 90 NFC title game is still the biggest choke moment in sports history. The game was over and the Niners got closer than any other team in winning three straight SB's. No team still has come that close. He isn't remembered for anything else really from niners fans. And I don't really blame them at all. Craig not securing that ball in that moment, was unforgivable.
@RabahRayanNabilEl164 жыл бұрын
@@jjames7771 agreed, but I don't remember people giving him much flak for fumbling in that situation, they talked more about Joe Montana getting knocked out the game, but you right though

I liked Craig. 3 touchdowns in the 84 Superbowl against the dolphins. Def more of a dual threat than a great runner tho. Fit the niners passing attack perfect.
@RabahRayanNabilEl164 жыл бұрын
@@jeffwhisenhunt929 yeah, I mean Bill Walsh was able to use him better than any other coach but for his vision to be that bad is inexcusable, the niners o line at that time was a underrated run blocking team at that time

first and only guy to 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in a single season. That means you have a pro bowl quality receiver and pro bowl quality rusher in one player. He set a then SB record 3 TD's in a game against the Dolphins in 1984. All 12 seasons he played he went to the playoffs. Great teammate and had a huge work ethic. I do not at all agree with your assessment. His fumble in the NFC Championship game will always loom over his head quite unfairly. Where was the Defense? After all it's a team game.
