When compressing the caliper use the old break pad on the caliper to prevent damaging the caliper piston.

leave the pad on the caliper while your pushing piston back in...it aids and it protects piston face

Breaker would help with removing lugs, C-clamp helps with caliper piston, and brake cleaner (spray on, wipe off) helps with cleaning rotors and other dusty/oily parts. Thanks for taking time to share and help the community of DIYers.

Just did this on a friends 1999 Chevy Suburban k1500. The outside pad, with the clip that slides over the caliper, can appear to pop into place, but not be fully seated, so check that it is flush and even on both sides. This may take some prying and tapping. I would recommend putting that pad in first and once set put the inside pad in which is much easier. There is a Left and Right outside pad (so the squeezer plate ends up "down"). The inside pads are identical. One caliper was leaking a bit, so we got new calipers for like $37 each at the local parts store and they came with pre-lubricated guide pins, new guide pin bolts, and a new brake line bongo bolt with two copper washers [I would recommend adding some additional caliper grease to the pins]. This made things super easy as you can install the pads "on the bench", then install the caliper, and then install the brake line. Also eliminated the need to compress the caliper pistons and clean the caliper pins & bolts. Requires a bit of bleeding the brake lines, but that's easy, especially with a "one man bleeder setup". The Ceramic brake pads came with the seals and boots for rebuilding the calipers, but I didn't need those. There is a Left and Right caliper. Other than the clip on the outside pad, I love this brake design. There is no caliper bracket, so changing the rotors is no extra work.

Hello 1 Road. I've recently taken a look at the brakes and rotors on my 95 Chevy Suburban and I'm honestly surprised it even works, pads are shot and rotors are warped and grooved. This video here is literally a life saver for me potentially as my Suburban is my Wife and children's car, i feel horrible it's that bad. That was really interesting seeing you put new brakes on the Suburban Jimmy. Keep the videos coming, that was pretty helpful for me because I've been working on restoring an old 1965-66 Mustang made by Ford, it was my dad's when he was still alive. The car has been needing engine work which that part is almost finished and then it needs a lot of other work on it. It needs new tires, the brakes I'll probably replace, new fuel, carburetor needs to be fixed, steering wheel needs a new horn ring, car needs to be waxed, dents need to be fixed etc. whatever else needs to be done for it.

using dish detergent on any degreasing job is fine as long as you put it back on really dry. The dish detergent is a great degreaser and it's almost free of charge, I use it alot .

Yes definitely agree with using brake clean and the old pad when pushing piston back into caliper. I think the paint respirator is a little much.

You can use any flat metal piece to depress the Piston you can use the old pad too .

Putting on new rotors requires the important part is getting the axle castle nut just perfectly lightly tightened. I would add that to your vid. (I'm a Shadetree Mechanic for sure and amateur in qualifications, but do most of my repairs to a 1999 GMC Suburban)

I have a GMC Yukon 1999 it is pulling when I brake what does that mean

if you were a mechanic, you would know that some of those pins a re not chamfered on the end you insert into the caliper, some are. if not, it makes it way more difficult to slide the pins by the new o rings you just installed. the brake pad should be lubed where it contacts the caliper and caliper piston as well.

I think you should also use a bungee cord to hold the callipers to take the weight off the break line

how come no one ever shows how to BURNISH your front pads after putting new ones on. its very important to do this .

Man I feels so bad when I remember when I was 16 going to high school with that suburban black with fully tinted and brakes are not working at all and everytime I get close to traffic light I thought I will crash the whole cars like bolling lol

if you have to use a c clamp to compress the caliper, put one of the old brake pads in between them. that way you can turn the c clamp handle without trouble. if you had phenolic calipers (plastic) you might break them if you use a c clamp without the brake pad in between. or, just use the proper caliper compressor tool

ac delco is no longer owned and operated by gm. some chinese company now makes ac delco parts. our shop has stopped using ac delco parts.

also, use brake parts cleaner....easy.

You may replace T55 torque bolts with 19mm bolt.

To clean packing oil off of new rotors you simply use a can of brake cleaner and a shop towel.

It looks like your old pads & rotors were fine, you wasted a bunch of time & money here. Shoulda just lubed your pads and the noise would be gone.

I think "professional" isnt original equipment. I believe its "advantage" (lowest level of quality) "professional" (which is middle of the road quality) and then GM original equipment is the best. But not totally sure, don't quote me on that :)
