A few weeks back I went to a truck show in Ontario, and after the show I decided to cruise past Amrep's manufacturing facility just to see what was new. In there I saw 2, possibly 3 brand new Mack MRU Amrep front loaders painted up for Anderson, and knew that if I was going to find one of their Able Body's , I had to go soon. Fast forward 3 weeks, Alex and I found ourselves here in Simi Valley doing just that. It ended up being one of those days where things just fell into place.
Right off the bat we saw this truck, a beautiful example of just how good these "broad radius" front load bodies look, especially paired with all of the sharp angles of an old Mack MR cab. And thanks to an awesome driver, we got to get a great video of this truck in action. Extremely quick cycle times, often as short as 15 seconds and a packer speed to match made for quite the entertaining morning.
The opening clip features 2 trucks, the one in the back not operating is the Able Body, only missed getting that cycle by a second or two so I started as the second truck pulled up. The truck in the foreground was a slightly newer version of the Able Body, an older model Bridgeport also on a Mack MR which is essentially visually identical aside from it not having all the extra vertical ribs on the body. It was neat to see them both next to each other, even though you cant see much on the video :P
There's just something about seeing an old west coast front loader driving with non-adjustable "bottom pocket" forks just inches off the ground like at 10:05 in this video.
Anyway, enough rambling from me and enjoy the video if you havn't yet watched it, and if you have I hope you liked it. Comments are always appreciated, especially because of how tough it is to make videos of commercial trucks, especially when you have to follow them/stay out of their way for 30 minutes just for there to be enough sunlight to begin filming :D
This was the first video shot with the new-to-me camera I just bought, and it was mistakenly shot in 720p. Other than that, I'm very happy with how it turned out

Oh good! I'm really happy one of you interwebz people got this one before it too disappeared off the landscape. :-) I also appreciate the hard work it took to get this video.

Well I guess I'll start with the obligatory "great job!" All the effort which went into filming surely hasn't gone unnoticed or unappreciated. The truck is awesome for all the obvious reasons; quick, loud, etc, but what I think really stands out about the broad radius Ables/Bridgeports is the fusion of modern style curved construction with the old school vertical bracing. The best of both worlds. It does pair nicely with the MR, especially when viewed from street side with the sliding bus window. Driver is an absolute pro. Dude handles overfilled bins with ease, makes the most effective use of the outside controls, slides bins off the forks with a single smooth motion, doesn't even waste time getting out of the cab (4:38). I'll bet he appreciates the lower windshield on the MRs, a much better view of the forks. I hear you when it comes to the bit at 10:05. In general I think it looks cool when a driver pulls up to a bin with the forks already at pocket height well in advance. Probably because that's how I remember seeing it done as a kid, but with side pockets of course. Seriously top notch vid.

georgewuzheer This "generation" of front loaders has always been my favorite. I like square bodies, but these have always interested me more. They've just got a little more shape and uniqueness to them. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that I cant ever recall seeing a square body anything as a child. All Legal Ones and Octos that I can remember. The fact that these are on old MRs is a good part of the reason I went to find these over trying to see if American Reclamation still runs theirs on a WX. These cabs look exceptionally good paired with pretty much any body, and are just far less common out here. Totally agree about the driver being a pro too. The smooth, fluid movements not only save time and are easier on the truck, but it is so neat to watch. It's funny because every time I see someone has commented on this video, or any time I scroll past it for that matter, I've stopped and watched it all the way through again just because of those very things. Thanks for the kind words!

Awesome video. This is my first time seeing a truck with non adjustable bottom channel forks. That compactor was very unique with the bottom pockets. American Reclamation also has this type of Able body with non adjustable side channel forks.

willoughbygarbagefan 31 Thanks, me too! I just wish I was a couple seconds sooner and I would have gotten both trucks operating in the same clip only seconds apart from each other :D

Wow, such an amazing find. Very glad you guys got to it before the Amreps came in. To reiterate what George already said, the combination of the curved body with some old bracing characteristics is really nice. Love how its exclusively bottom slots too, especially that compactor. Super pro driver, as we've discussed earlier haha. Very fast arms too. Everything about this truck looks amazing, from the constrasting MR and broad radius body to their green/red color scheme. Love how he used the dumpster at 8:07 to kind of smash everything down. Love how they can do that with the bottom slots. Truck really sounds nice too. Overall an amazing production.

Garbage Trucks AZ I was happy to see the compactor too, cant recall ever seeing bottom slots on a compactor before so that was neat. I just love how even their brand new trucks are exclusively bottom slot. Both GI and Anderson are keeping that alive which is awesome. Thanks for the comment!

This truck is amazing and I'm glad it's finally been captured on video! While I'm partial to the WX's since that's what I grew up with and love driving, this combination is quite gorgeous. Good job as always. You might have to tag along for a trip George and I have planned in Vegas in a few weeks.

Looks like this will be one of those videos I have to pause 56 times and write something as soon as I think of it. First time I tried watching this (2 months ago....) I wasn't in a front loader mood for some reason and didn't stay interested past the 2nd shot. But now I have to say, really am digging the sudden kick of the RPM, even when he's doing the outside controls! Not something you hear very often (when truck is controlled by exterior controls). Call it MSL-like, and maybe that is the reason it appeals to me so much...but still it's rare. Now is there any evidence of Anderson switching to side slots? I'm stoked that they're using entirely bottom slot dumpsters (now anyways), hope that never changes. God 15 seconds no kidding...what a fun truck to watch. Not only ABC, but all the Bridgeport FLs and definitely the Mammoth are solid, quick bodies that seem to be very reliable but not over the top as far as design complexity. Fun ass video, this was. I'll certainly be coming back to it. Props to the awesome/skilled driver. How's that camera working out?

Awesome work Mike! Surprised at how well your camera focused considering how dark it looked. The first Dumpster he collected was really cool. Love those compactor Dumpsters. Very good driver, makes great speed at each stop, such as the cycle at 2:43. 3:19 was a great angle. 3:50 was even nicer with the whole truck in the frame. Had to laugh when the Dumpster started rolling away haha The ribbed body is awesome. So retro. Absolutely love the looks of this truck. Paint scheme is very nice too. White rims really gave it the classic look. Enjoyed the bottom slot Dumpsters. I like seeing those get tipped a lot more than regular Dumpsters. Great cycle @ 8:01. So close to getting everything into the hopper at 12:13 lol So glad to hear they're buying new MRU/Amreps! What camera did you get? Quality was awesome. Really, really, really like it. Great ol' find Mike, honestly have to say this is one of your top finds ever. Good work!!

***** Scott actually recommended it to me and I went ahead and got the same camera he uses. Its a slightly older Canon, the HF R300. It has good image, but its also made before they added those dumb audio muting features. Newer Canon camcorders all mute audio at times when loud bangs or other sounds happen, and when filming trucks, we don't want that! I want to hear the growl of the engine or the slam of the dumpsters so that was not something I was willing to deal with. But this camera is great, it captures every sound as it is in person. Thanks for the comment!
