It's amazing how much Bristol grew in the '90s to the bowl-style stadium race track that it grew to be. It looks like a completely different track.

I love watching these classic Bristol races. The nostalgic grit and majesty of what used to be the absolute best race on the NASCAR circuit until they neutered the track for more side by side racing. The aggressive beating and banging for that bottom groove is what made Bristol and it is just not the same anymore.

I agree it will never be the old Bristol anymore. But, the racing is pretty darn good at Bristol now. I will always miss this type of racing. However, I also do enjoy the side by side of today’s racing at Bristol. Great racing between Rusty and Mark. The good ol days.

Look at those onboard shots from 9:16 to 9:42. The intensity is insane, and for 500 laps with no ridiculous stage breaks. Nowadays these "drivers" look like they're on a Sunday drive around Bristol. NASCAR really lost its way.
@braedonshelton2305

I agree that this was when the racing was at its best. No doubt. Great drivers with characters However, technology has come along way since 93. Of course the cars are easier to drive now. Therefore, the drivers are not as wooped. The drivers are also in better shape now as well. I will always miss the old Bristol. But, do greatly enjoy the action of today’s Bristol. It’s the best racing of the year. I think the stages are a great idea too. My one complaint is that the caution periods take to long.

Agreed, looks like the camera car is smaller than the outside car, but that perspective is due to the banking. Camera shots were spot on in those days.

If you're going to tell anyone that you've got a bad headache after a crash, who better tell than a doctor moonlighting as a television pit reporter. Bobby Hamilton got interviewed by the right ESPN guy on that one.

The cars and tracks of the 90's required the drivers to be real wheelmen. Nowadays the drivers are little weaklings that can't even go 500 miles, or 500 laps in the case of Bristol, without several stage breaks. The Chase and progressive banking was bad enough but the stages put it over the top for me and I lost interest after 20 years.
@Chad-wu4ij
@Chad-wu4ij 4 жыл бұрын
@@DCTib I'm not sure you can blame the drivers. I think the sanctioning body has tried to stay relevant over the years and violated the old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it." The driver demographic has definitely changed, more guys from out west and less southern and midwestern guys. I honestly think if NASCAR would lose the schticks (stages, lucky dogs, chase) and just let the race unfold naturally it would be a better show. Also, they need to reassemble the ESPN crew from the 90s to air all the races. Those guys made the racing enjoyable and exciting to watch as well.

Real shame how Irvan treated the MMM team. Wrecked at least 2 cars and blew up a couple of engines that weekend just so he could get out of his contract with MMM and go drive the 28. Was a huge Irvan fan until he did this. In his book he says he'd do some things in his career differently if he could. I wonder if this is one of them?

"Dick Trickle went a lap down when he spun" in other words he had to race down the leader in real NASCAR there was no lucky dog. I believe Bill Elliott at one point went three laps down, ran down the leaders under green flag and lapped the entire field three times. Not only to gain his lead lap status but then went on to win the race. I I'm so sick of the kindergarten playground that they call Modern NASCAR.
