The 90's were definitely the "golden age of NASCAR". The early 2000's were close but after the COT, NASCAR went downhill fast.

agreed, just wish North Wilkesboro and Rockingham were still raced on today in the Cup Series. This 6 road courses and Bristol on dirt are just dumb ideas.

@@ProtectorsofHumanity Bristol on dirt is kinda cool tbh. But yeah the road courses are boring.

The first 25 seconds of the video are awesome! The Stones "Start Me Up" is absolutely perfect to set the stage. You can feel the energy and anticipation that was Bristol back in the day! The shot of Sr. just staring ahead is classic!!

This was my first race at BMS. My Dad had moved to within a mile and a half of the racetrack and BMS used a system of the closer you live to the racetrack the more likely you get seats. Since at this time there were new seats going up before every race we ended up with 4 in a row. We gave them up in 2009 just after what we saw progressive banking racing was like. Also the track made us purchase all 4 seats for every race during the week coming to about $5K a year for the 2 race weekends.

Amen. I still come to KZfaq to get my NASCAR fix, because THIS is what NASCAR is and was. Not that bullshit we have today.

I'm sure some people on Saturday night will turn off the race, and drown their sorrows right here by watching this video... good times. Thanks for this one! Been wanting to see Bobby kick that car of his! I was watching the race that night, but I missed his car-kicking due to a bathroom break. hahaha

I actually liked what NASCAR did back in the early 00's with the TV deal (unless you were a die-hard, you had no idea when what race was on what channel), and FOX in it's first few years was actually pretty good. They just became a parody of themselves lately, NBC became "Nothing But Commercials", then when ESPN and TNT got the deals, TNT was meh, and ESPN was not even a shadow of their old selves

1:20:10 = You got to feel for Ernie.. he definitely could of won a championship in NASCAR but that massive accident at Michigan in 94 destroyed his career...

I miss the older NASCAR that I grew up with. In my opinion it started to go on life support with the introduction of the chase, and pretty much died completely after 2007 once the Car of Tomorrow happened. NASCAR hasn't recovered since, and I don't think it ever will. The cars and the constant rule changes, along with the young, rich kids who are only there for sponsorship and marketing purposes don't relate to fans at all, and it's not helping the sport.

How about 32:50 Bruton smith turning the track back to asphalt and putting a dome around it. Never heard that before.

NASCAR changed rules when they felt like it in the 90's. The thing was, it was Chevy one week bitching that Ford had an advantage, then the next week, Ford bitched that Chevy had an advantage, and NASCAR tried to tinker around so it could be even, but someone always bitched.

I hear ya. I have quit watching NA$CAR all together. Got into Aussie V8's and just love the racing. I just wish I could afford to go down to Austin, TX for their race this year.

Where can I get mp3's of the commercial "bumper music" that ESPN used going into breaks? It's crazy how the simplest things made these broadcasts so well done.

Agreed, today is NOT what NASCAR is...I loved this style of racing and there were so many mature, and down-to-earth drivers. Now this is a kid's sport, the sponsors flock to marketable young talent, Carl Edwards has 5 sponsors that could go to other competitors, Joey Logano has a ride that should go to an established veteran, and the sanctioning body changes rules when they feel like it.

When drivers used to just give up the position and save there race cars, no wonder why so many cry now about cars not handling

Whoopity Doo I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the stands last Bristol race. I became a fan in 2006 and these races show how much fun it used to be. Bristol looks like it would have been a million times more fun than it is today with its insane bowl configuration

And he is still overhyped
@skinneren11 жыл бұрын
who is Joey Logano?
@vidEvWill11 жыл бұрын
Logano is the 20 year old racer who was overhyped from the very beginning of his career that he'd become this big megastar and in 2009 JGR put him the 20 car too early without experience in Nationwide. That was WAY too much pressure on a young driver and he had to race trying to realize all that potential. Logano left Joe Gibbs Racing this year to go to Penske Racing to drive the 22 car.
