I wouldn't say this is the most 'famous' B-body... I think that honor goes to the Impala SS of the same time period. But, holy shit, watching this (especially that slow pan across the gauge cluster) gave me such nostalgia. I owned a black 1992 Roadmaster Limited sedan decades ago. It had a maroon leather interior and was absolutely everything you said the car was in this video. It got totaled in an accident in the summer of 2006, and everyone who saw it happen said I probably wouldn't have survived had I been in anything smaller. I still have dreams about that car and wear the door and trunk key on a neckchain.

The Buicks survived because they had the oldest owners who drove them the least. Caprice was the most common back in the day, by far, but since 90% of them were cop cars or taxis, they're becoming extinct. The Olds was insanely rare even back then. The round Fleetwood was only made for 3 years, and had stiff in-house competition from the DeVille, which was cheaper and looked very similar. Plus you could get that with the high tech new NORTHSTAR engine, which was getting rave reviews, rather than a Chevy engine.
@rustyshackleford1687
@rustyshackleford1687 Жыл бұрын
And that fancy new NORTHSTAR with its extremely high failure rate is a big part of why we don't see the DeVille as much now. The Roadmaster has a much more stout drivetrain.

This was the car I not only drove my Grandmother in, but was her and my Grandfathers last purchase. Needless to say, the Buick ended up in my Aunts hands and in my Moms possession. My Mom finally was ready to sell and told me about it and I bought the 93’ for $500 bucks with only 118k miles. Shipped it to Arizona where it is well taken care of. By the way, the 93’ Buick w/ the 5.7l have 170hp but also move quickly because the torque is rated at 300 ft lbs. which I can tell you is no slouch. Can’t beat the highway ride when your Classic car has Dynaride😎 -Great video

I own a 1995 Black Buick Roadmaster sedan with tan leather interior which was purchased brand new at its time. It is my favorite of the 3 major B-Body GM car options that were made in the Arlington, Texas factory: 1. Chevrolet Caprice 2. Buick Roadmaster 3. Cadillac Fleetwood. Another model that shared the chassis with the Roadmaster Estate Wagon (station wagon) was the Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. My Roadmaster is my true prized possession, and I consider this classic as a younger brother to the Cadillac Fleetwood. As an underrated GM choice, I was given feedback by a couple of people that it is prettier than the Fleetwood. It has a more mysterious shape and vibe to the body architecture, than its other GM B-Body counterparts. The front grille is Buick's distinctive signature toothy grille, versus the mesh design for the Caprice and Fleetwood. All GM B-Body models shared the same 5.7 liter, 260hp engine, just as GM's Chevy Corvette. When I accelerate, I can feel the "umph" when it takes off with a screech with its rear wheel drive transmission. The satisfaction driving my Roadmaster with its infamous Dynaride suspension, and the tri-shield emblem hood ornament pointing towards the road is one my best experiences. This iconic masterpiece is a part of my soul, and will remain so for my life as I hand it over to my children who will be the next generation to inherit this classic. Dr. Sanjay Kumar & Family

You know, I'd argue 90s radio units hold up better than early/mid 2000s radio units, because you can use the cassette player for aux or bluetooth. But the 2000s were a weird time where cassette players were old-fashioned and often not included, but it was too soon for an aux input or bluetooth. My 2007 Lacrosse only had a CD player, and the radio sucked so the cigarette lighter bluetooth/aux adapters were no good.

Here in southern Alberta, I recently encountered a '95 Buick Roadmaster Interceptor for sale. It appeared to be basically mint with a full leather interior and has aftermarket chrome wheels and an after market stereo with a subwoofer. Oh, and I guess you're probably wondering how there's a Roadmaster Interceptor version as I did when I found out. Well, the Impala SS wasn't the only Chevy version of the chassis which shared it's engine with the Corvette, the police Interceptor version of the Caprice also shared that engine and there was no SS package for a Buick so I guess they just decided to make a Buick Roadmaster with a Corvette engine and call it an Interceptor version although I doubt they were usually used by police. It was just a way to combine the best part of the Chevy version with the comfort and luxury of a Buick.
@bwofficial1776

The tow package came with most of the police package suspension. The LT1 used in the B-body was more similar to the Camaro engine in terms of tune and had iron heads whereas the Camaro and Corvette had aluminum heads.

always loved the roadmaster, especially the "estate wagon" for its unique moonroof that even goes to the second row. but the badge engineering so prevalent with GM in this period is very prevalent in the rear doors, the entire door card is straight off the Caprice, they didn't change a thing.

I think the impala and caprice on the b body platform are the most known/popular while the roadmaster and brougham go under the radar. The impala ss sells for crazy high prices compared to its brethren. But the roadmaster is my favorite. Impala/caprice is a lil too round and sporty while the Brougham is roundish cadillac with fins still. The Roadmaster has the right look that is the most intimidating and subtle at the same time to me. Also sells for the least thankfully, hopefully that doesnt change by the time i can afford a second car

Great vid. I have a '94 Fleetwood. Figured if you're going ridiculous float b body...go big or go home. Wiki says 200,900 Roadmasters were built while 90,000 Fleetwoods were built. So Roadmasters should be twice as common. But why still have Roadmasters seemingly outperformed even that 2:1 head start? Idk. Best guess is Fleetwoods went to people who liked showing off, thus money went towards that rather than maintenance. Also maybe led to more turning, aka second hand owners traded to newer cars more often, deferring maintenance more. Impalas are around, but those probably went to tuners and they maybe put money towards performance rather than maintenance? And like Fleetwood owners, flipped more often to the next best thing, deferring maintenance? Olds...because it is olds, no one wanted them. Roadmasters went to people who just wanted a good car and that practical mindset led to better maintenance maybe? And those practical people probably had a, "if it ain't broke attitude," so they held on to them longer? I don't think there is anything mechanically that would explain the Roadmaster outperformance?

The Olds Custom Cruiser was only for 1991 and 1992, and did not sell well in the first place. The electronics on the Fleetwoods are not like the electronics on the DeVilles, Sevilles and Eldorados. Just a pet theory, but maybe the Roadmaster was just upmarket enough that a lot of working folk bought these as their "nice" car, you got a lot of features for the price compared to a Cadillac. The Cadillac owner might drive his/hers for a few years before trading it in for something newer, and the second owner might not take as good care of it as the first owner did. The aveage Roadmaster buyer might have kept his car and cared for it better since it's much nicer than what they're normally used to.

Interestingly, my opinion of the '90s Roadmaster is largely the opposite of this video. I had one about five years ago, and I found it to be quite uncomfortable with pretty poor ride quality. There was no leg room, and the seats were hard and a weird "ergonomic" shape that just hurt. I ended up taking them out and putting in a bench seat from an early '80s Buick, which was a huge improvement. Material quality was poor. Interior plastic was fragile and everything was crumbling to bits. Sheet metal was super thin and a tap with anything dented it. It was a product of its time: Cost cutting to the nines with a weird focus on stiffness to give the feeling of faux performance to appease reviewers who loved crappy European "luxury" cars. Gripes aside, it was a fun zippy little car. Basically just a dressed up muscle car. Styling made it the perfect sleeper. Even the grill and headlights look like the face of a grumpy old man. I'd drive another one if it came along for the right price, but for now I'll just stick to cruising in my fullsize '70s land yachts.
@bwofficial1776
@bwofficial1776 Жыл бұрын
Probably the pinnacle of the land yacht. Luxurious, comfortable, smooth, able to cruise for hours, tons of room, loaded with gadgets. I love seeing these because they're so rare now. You have a point about never seeing B-bodies any more, Caprices got cheap and run into the ground while the Custom Cruiser was only sold for two years and Fleetwoods were bought in fewer numbers because of the higher price. Roadmasters were bought by old people who kept them for years and barely drove them. I always wondered why the Roadmaster wagon used the Caprice front end. It probably had to do with production numbers and it being more economical to just put a different grille and hood ornament on the Caprice wagon. I really want a Roadmaster wagon. They're enormous but super comfortable and surprisingly powerful. I'd really like to take a Roadmaster wagon and a Fleetwood and make the wagon Cadillac never made or maybe just put the Roadmaster sedan front end on the wagon.

The Cadillac Fleetwood of this era had an exterior that was just as pleasing as the Roadmaster, but comparing interiors, I think the Cadillac was not up to the Buick. It had a boring dash, ugly puckered seats… felt cheap… A step down from the previous generation Fleetwood. The Oldsmobile was only made for 2 model years- and only as a wagon… The Caprice was even more bubble-y, more love it or hate it styling (most hated it) Plus I think the standard engine for the caprice the last couple mode years was a 4.3 v8, while the Roadie had the mighty 5.7 LT1…. All in all the Buick came closest to what traditional buyers expected. My opinion of course
