My thoughts on the 1993 Ford F-150 XLT with a 4.9L Inline 6 cylinder engine, and 5 speed manual gear box:
Everyone’s heard of the F-150, It’s a staple of not only trucks but the automotive industry. But why is that? Why is the F-150 the top selling truck in a market with tons of other options? Well let’s talk about the F-150 as a truck.
The Inline six under the hood of the F-150 is a slight lack of power. It’s not great, it’s not amazing, and definitely leaves me desiring a V8. That being said, It’s not the worst thing in the world. Ford fans claim the 4.9 straight six is nearly bulletproof and will swear by it until the cows come home. While I can’t really test how bulletproof an engine is in one review, I do have to say in some instances I’d take longevity over power when it comes to older vehicles. The 5 speed’s shifter is mounted to the floor, giving it a larger throw than other cars. As I drove it I didn’t really mind the long throw, since power shifting and taking the truck to its utter limits was a pointless task anyway.
In case you somehow forgot, the F-150 is a truck. It does truck things. The F-150 has a giant bed, towing ready suspension, and was built with the heart and intent of doing manual labor until the body falls off. Along with the fact that everyone knows the Ford name, that’s why everyone loves the F-150. They’re the Honda Civic of trucks: you buy one because they work and you know they’ll keep working.
