Sixth round of the 1993 500cc Motorcycle Grand Prix Season. Daryl Beattie scores his maiden victory in a slipstreaming thriller of a race, just beating Kevin Schwantz to the line, with Shinichi Itoh not too far behind in third.

500cc two strokes and no electronics, it doesn't get any better than that. This was by far the best era in GP racing.

Rainey almost became world champions for fourth time, but he crashed in Misano and never walks again

The worst thing about Wayne's crash was the it looked like really a nothing crash. Like the sort of tumble riders routinely walked away from every other week . I have the DVD of the 93 season. Can't watch the misano round .

Also changed the history of the championship. Would have been an epic battle with Doohan. Misano is an awful track.

If doohan didn't have that big crash at assen 92 rainy def would not have been 92 champ 100%

I suppose Gardner had fully retired by this time. I THOUGHT I remembered him riding a few races in the first part of 93, but I reckon not. Gardner and Schwantz were the 2 riders that threw ALL their talent in EVERY race. Those 2 were awesome.

⁠@@r563He didn’t. Gardner mainly raced in the ATCC in 1993. He did manage to score a 3rd place finish at the Bathurst 1000 with Brad Jones that year too, in addition to winning the ATCC support race on Sunday at the Australian F1 GP.
