We look at rail operations and mining operations from the visitor center at the Kennecott Copper Mine south of Salt Lake City Utah.

The trains would enter the mine via a tunnel. They ran between the loadout and a processing plant, or concentrator, where the copper was refined from the ore and made into anodes. The locomotives were EMD GP39-2s with elevated cabs for greater visibility. They were unique to the mine.

Thank you, for posting this footage. The Kennecott Copper Corp. GP39-2's had what many called a "Vista"cab. Yes, for better visibility while loading. With high clearance fuel tanks. 26 units made from EMD. Only a handful of them still around in this original configuration. From what I've seen there isn't alot of videos of the railway around the mine and the smelting facility. If you have any footage around the smelter facility, please post it. Again, Thank you!
