A visit to the largest man-made hole in the world, the Bingham Canyon copper mine.
I made a few mistakes in my voice-over. The dump truck close up was actually of a 320 ton model, identifiable by the red lip on the front of the dump bed. Additionally the machine I thought was a 4100XPC was actually a 2800XPC, a slightly smaller model. The 4100XPC (#98) is up on the left side of the pit and there is a significant amount of footage of it in this video.

And to think I drove right through Salt Lake City on a solo vacation back in 2018. If I had known about this mine, I would have made plans to tour this place. Looks very cool.

I remember looking down from the old visitors center, wondering why the group of little cars were painted yellow when I realized they were full size school buses. The dump trucks are the size of a 2 story home.

Thanks. I shot it on a Panasonic GH5 with their 14-140 F3.5-5.6 lens. I've since upgraded to a Sony A7SIII.

Been to the bottom of that pit many times. Used haul mill liners and bowls and mantles in for the crusher described.

Those trucks are actually pulling anywhere from 360 to 400 tons of dirt.

Yep. No matter how dense the material is, they get loaded to the fill line

I went there a few years ago. It was not open to visitors, so we hiked all the way to a peak to take a look at it.

Thanks for showing unedited footage of truck loading. Too many mining videos have to many cuts in there. I've been there a few times when I worked for Rio Tinto. Nice bunch of people.

I've heard about that mine it's supposed to be a copper gold mine did they happen to tell how many tons of gold and copper they pull every year.

Approximately 300,000 tons of copper and 13-14 tons of gold.

I think they try to avoid having people walking on the ground near operating equipment. You may have noticed that most of the smaller vehicles like pickup trucks have very tall flags on them. This is so the operators in the dumptrucks can see them and don't run them over. You can imagine this might be a problem for a person on the ground.

Bucketwheel excavators wouldn't be of any use in a mine like this. They only work in softer materials.
