After allegations, a widespread media onslaught, his tour cancellation, an admission to drug dependancy and an overall catastrophic end to 1993, Michael Jackson and his team were in full crisis mode throughout 1994.
In hopes of stemming the negative press circus that surrounded the artist, the King Of Pop made several high profile television appearances and shocked the world with his wedding with the daughter of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Lisa Marie Presley.

I was reading his memoir and he shared a story about his Mother Katherine helping a bleeding man that came to their front door when he was a child. The man was bleeding so bad you could see all the doors he knocked on and was rejected before going to their house. She helped the man. Michael was tricked by a wolf that knocked.

The one thing I do remember of this era is Flo Anthony. She ALWAYS told the truth about the Jacksons. Among all those gossipy tabloidy bottomfeeders, she stood atop as someone with integrity & honesty. I'm glad she was out there to set the record straight. I think she knew being part of Black Media what the agenda of the Conspirators was & set out to keep truth in the mix where people could reach it. She was among those gossips but was not OF them. In those days before the internet, Big Media shaped how you saw someone. So she made it a point to go where the people are. And yes, she was right about everything she talked about with Lisa Marie & Michael. This didn't just pop up out of nowhere. We can see beyond Big Media bullshit better today in this Internet age but back then you needed someone like Flo Anthony to keep it real. So thankful for her. She kept me sane when they would try to drag & disparage Michael. Michael Jackson fans learned before everyone else about ALTERNATIVE MEDIA. WE had to tell the stories because Mainstream Media refused to. And we were ready by the time of the 2nd witchhunt in the 2000s.

+Shashani Lilangi Remember how he always talked about having his "Rhinoceros Skin". That was a trait he inherited from his father Joseph. Michael was a lot like his father in many ways. There was a lot of his mother Katherine in him as we all see but Joe's toughness is exampled in how he dealt with this insane media & fame. A lesser man would have crumbled long ago under that pressure. Somebody so seemingly soft & gentle but underneath is a Titan. That's what makes Michael so special.

That was great! Thank you so much for these. The rendering of Michael & Lisa's son was hilarious! I never saw that before. I remember the uproar over shooting the teaser in Hungary. MJ was constantly in the news at this time. Every single day there was a new crazy story. MJ thought the paparazzi was bad before but after 1994 it went to a whole new level. I remember being at Trump Tower when MJ was living there while recording HIStory and everybody was coming up to the security guards at the mall on the first level asking if Michael Jackson was there. He said, "I don't know and wouldn't tell you if I did." He did tell me that MJ enters through a garage at the back of the building and would never be in the lobby.

In a weird way I view what happened MJ in 1994 as a more darker version of MJ in 1986. Both years were transition years and during both years tabloids began to emerge against him. Really interesting.

+Paul Gilbert Good point. Michael bought the Catalog in 1985 after his success in the Thriller/Victory Era. So the vultures came out against him in 1986 onward while he was in recovery from 3 straight years of exposure. The scheme to wrest Michael's catalog away from him using this crooked family in 1993 resulted in the 1st Witchhunt. So the vultures came out against him even harder in 1994 onward while he was in recovery from the Witchhunt. I like the observation you made there. There is definitely a pattern.

In my opinion, that was Michael Jackson's most inactive period of his life, he was so broke by all the allegations made against him, that he couldn't end the 2nd leg of the Dangerous Tour. But he was still working on his new record HIStory, wich will be later released on June 16, 1995.

+Samittoxx This is why HIStory was so angry & full of rage. That shit he went through would make ANYBODY lose their cool. As usual, Michael let his music do the talking. And he came up with one of the most PROPHETIC albums ever in HIStory. So aptly named. I KNEW this album was special when I bought it in 1995. My first album bought with my own money. The 2nd track on that album was an instant favorite of mine. Instant classic. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US. Whew.

I like to see younger generations discover him beyond the most popular or known songs. People are STILL trying to decipher the mystery of Little Susie! He definitely took a pause in 1994 but he came right back strong in 1995. I think his most inactive periods were 1998-2000 because he had disappeared and 2003 til his death due to the new trial and the rest of the years being inactive.

Another fine archival video. And one from quite a tough year in Jackson’s career. One that makes his subsequent success with HIStory all the more remarkable. It would have been so easy for his career to have caved after 1993, but it’s a testament to Jackson’s stamina, grit and determination to defy expectation and keep pushing boundaries that bounced him back (even if he never recaptured the dizzying heights of the late 80s/early 90s).

Wow...seeing all those people talking like that about Michael and Lisa Marie like they were two characters in a soup opera and you can just mock them and assume whatever you want about them, was just disgusting. I am someone who when I experienced a humiliating moment, it will hunt me forever! I am very sensible with stuff like that, is really hard for me to just let the past in the past, so I cant even imagined how they must had felt.

Man I forgot about the booing at the Jackson Family Honors. The family did that as a show of unity but people wanted to hear Michael sing. He didn't need that reaction & I know he was hurting after this show. He got such a warm ovation at the NAACP Awards. It's good to see the sequence of events play out one by one because you forget certain things & little details like that. Looking back it makes HIStory's debut in 1995 EVEN MORE profound because he was working uphill for the first time in a long time. The period between 1993-1995 taught me PERMANENTLY about the corruption of the Media. So glad I learned that valuable lesson. And yes I DO remember the CIVIL SETTLEMENT being the main cause of the Black Cloud over Michael rather than just Allegations. That's what locked in people's suspicion about his actions. He was actually supported by many people in 1993. But what the people didn't know is how much of a Kangaroo Court he would have subjected himself to if he DIDN'T do it that way. The People vs. Michael Jackson was supposed to be "The Trial of the Century". When they couldn't snare Michael with the scheme, a certain football player from San Francisco filled that role. The People vs. O.J. Simpson in 1994 was the substitution for Michael's "Trial of the Century". Some uppity Negro would be taken down one way or another. They had too much influence over the culture & that couldn't stand. Tom Mesereau said he wouldn't have allowed Michael to settle & would have beat the scheme. And he might be right but they had Michael set up to fail with that Kangaroo Court intended for him. Using the Civil Case to pad out a flimsy Criminal Case. Tom Sneddon wanted that Big Trophy BAD. Mike dodged that at the time but the consequence was the Black Cloud over his name. Only in hindsight can we see the total truth.

Fr :/ Ppl forget the civil settlement did not forbid jordan to testify against MJ and think he's guilty bc "he payed". They think that after the settlement the CRIMINAL investigation stopped, the truth is the accusers decided to not colaborate w the prosecution after the settlement, which, again, DIDN'T PREVENT THEM TO TESTIFY AGAINST HIM. That's why they closed the case. Also they found no proof against mj more than the markings, that didn't even match. Yes, no cp either as some ppl love to claim, the mere fact of owning cp is a crime itself. Also they all forget that the prosecution called jordan to testify against MJ in 2005, he didn't just deny but he also said he would legally fight any attempt to do so

@@araorcas2336 But people don't tend to like elaborate details. The courtroom is not a logical place. And at that time no one knew how rigged Tom Sneddon was making this case. He rigged the 2005 one too but all his plans blew up in his face there luckily. All we had was the Established Media-Mainstream & Tabloid-to tell what happened & both were invested in selling their narrative about Michael's "guilt" & "strangeness". All the fans had were their intuitions & Michael's character. It's really a miracle that Michael survived any of this when you look back at it. It was the 1993/1994 situation that changed the Michael Jackson Fanbase forever. We were all he had outside of his family (well most of 'em as we see with LaToya under Jack Gordon). This is what made us such champions & fighters against his disparagers. We were just music fans & entertainment fans before this. This witchhunt changed him AND us at the same time. Michael leaned on us for support more than ever before because of this character assassination campaign. And we held him up. By the time they came for him again in the 2000s we were ready. It was the post-Invincible/2nd witchhunt era in the 2000s that showed me the sheer quality of this fanbase. This is when I really understood how special we were. We knew the facts BETTER than the talking heads on TV.

But it's still bad. 1994 was a HARD recovery year for Michael now that I see this video. In my mind I kept thinking 1994 was easier than 1993 for him to deal with. But he was going through it this year too. Can't wait until we get to 1995 when Michael's RAGE was fully let out on record! HIStory!!

All the guy wanted to do was sing, dance, & make a difference in the world. And THIS is how he was repaid??? So glad he had his fans like us. I don't think he would have survived this without us. There has NEVER been a Star more under Siege than this dude here. But that's what made his legacy. Defying the expectations set before him. Whether being a statistic from Black Gary, Indiana or being a World Leader who challenges the status quo. He went above & beyond in everything he goddamned DID! A HERO! That's Mike.

The stupidity and hypocrisy of people who say MJ was guilty because he paid to settle but say nothing about parents who never went to the police, went to civil lawyers, took the money and refused to go to criminal trial. Thank you for this video! This actually helped us to have a glimpse of how chaotic Michael's world was because of the public and media scrutiny. It's really sad how the media made it weird that MJ married Lisa Marie. In my opinion, they were great together but it was never just the two of them in that marriage after the media found out. If they stayed together in secret, I believe they would have a chance.

They also choose to forget that MJ and LMP were dating for a year before marrying which means they were having an affair bc Lisa was still married back then. I watched the Jackson family honors numerous times and Never knew there was a segment where the crowd boos Mike for not singing, along with lawsuits and Elizabeth addressing the crowd. who the fuck hears his child say that he's been molested by a rich and powerful guy who has thousands of other children at his ranch, and thinks "ok, I'll just file a civil suit and then accept a settlement, fuck those other kids who might be molested by him in the future" but also everyone in their right mind would not accept money, they would want justice for their kids these allegations were a fucking joke and it's ridiculous that not many people saw the bigger picture and decided to accept these allegations because they obviously had preconceived false notions about him. it's heartbreaking to see what he went through and still goes through, even in his death

Lisa said in an Oprah interview she had been talking to Michael for two years before they flew to Vegas for a month and she left her family for him basically. She said she met him before his Oprah interview in 1992. In that interview he does mention he's seeing "one other girl" but he doesn't want to come out yet(because she is married). After a month with Michael in Vegas Lisa was completely in love and she stayed with him after that to get married in the Dominican Republic and then they lived in Trump tower for almost a year! She is probably still madly in love with him. She hasn't been well since he died. She said they dated six more years after the divorce and there is evidence of that all over the internet.

At this point I can easily say that the American media began to have a love/hate relationship with MJ. The international media and fans loved him regardless of all the accusations against him.

+Jarrett Cone And this is why I laugh when they try to compare someone to Michael. Like this Drake thing recently. Drake would have been absolutely broken by an onslaught like that from 1993/1994. Michael kept his popularity high AMONG accusations of being a deviant & criminal. That would have destroyed ANYBODY'S career. But not Michael's. It damaged him, sure, but did not defeat him. Michael survived multiple persecutions & his fanbase remained INTACT. In a way got even stronger. We defied our family & peers standing up for him. The Michael Jackson Fan was unique amongst fandoms. When I saw what I saw in the 2005 trial with fan support, I was surprised but not surprised. People spent their own personal money traveling around the world just to be there as a support for him at that time. That's dedication, brother. There is no fanbase quite like this one & I am proud to be a member of this fine group of people.

Its so cool. I was 14 at that time and I remember the most of it but mixed up the time line. Now with those videos I know exactly again when what was happening. Thank you so much. 1993 was hard for me, too as my whole school knew that I was a MJ fan and they weren’t nice to me when it all came out. It was hard … thank you 🙏🏼

To be fair, they clearly didn't tell anyone he wouldn't be performing beforehand and it's hard not to assume he wouldn't be, given that everyone else was performing and it was a Jackson family celebration. They needed to be more transparent before the event began. Not blaming it on Michael, but its not surprising given the circumstance.

Most people are just not ashamed! Haters. They won't just leave Michael Jackson alone. It's a good thing he was sometimes happy as Lisa Marie Presley came into his life even do it didn't last longer. Thank God Michael has loving and loyal fans, millions of loving fans. And he has his loving and supporting family and some good friends. I think especially in the US his career never recovered from the allegations of molestation. There was always the shadow of buying free. But MJ looked good in 94. I remember very well when he was filming in Budapest. And "that Kiss" on the MTV stage. Great video and full of memories. Thank you!

I feel like there are only 2 types of videos about MJ on internet. One, his music videos... and second, where people are accusing him of something and he has to explain himself. There were people who were even critical of his dressing sense the jackets, the hat, masks etc. It just feels like the media wanted to destroy him...
