I miss This version of Sears Point Raceway with the pedestrian bridges, hills and the configuration.

The car that Irvan drove was the exact same that Davey used in 1991. It was also purposed into a Taurus for Dale Jarrett and it was last used in 2001. The car is on possession of Warbirds museum in Arizona as an 88 Taurus.

Yates Racing was probably one of the most unlucky Nascar teams ever, they had some good cars and drivers that always got screwed somehow. Davey Allison had his best year and should have won the 1992 title and had to much bad luck, then the he;icopter crash. Irvan should have won the 1994 tittle and had that bad wreck. Ricky Rudd should have won several more races than he did. Besides the 1999 Jarrett year they had a lot of troubles. It's a shame Yates is not competing today.

No lie there man. If Davey hadn't gotten killed, Jeff Gordon would have about half the stats he holds today.

rebelracing88 Irvan drove that car better.

@@chrisb6049 Was a big 28 fan myself at that time, and agree. The period from late 93 to the injury in 94 was the car's strongest period. Ernie before the injury, with the Yates crew, would have kept Dale at 6.

That track had so much more character back then and I loved racing on it in NASCAR Racing, the PC simulation.

The cars had more character also, and more power.
@armorgeddon4 жыл бұрын
More power? Really? I stopped following NASCAR in 2012 and at that point there had more power than in 1994 I think. But I don't know what happenend in terms of engines after 2012.
@badmonkey22224 жыл бұрын
@@armorgeddon exactly ...in 2012 they had close to 850hp in 93 they had 7 to 750 and in 2016 when I stopped following they got those new shit motors, 550hp and 650 in short tracks and road courses and still the same now. Back in the 80s and 90s the cars just sounded and looked so much better

One of my favorite things to do is find an old Winston Cup from the good Ol' days and listen to it whilst playing NASCAR 15'. I just wish NASCAR 15 had this lay out of Sanoma.

When Irvan had a good car he crushed the competition like nobody else. This race, Charlotte in 1993, Talladega 1992 from a lap down.

One of the few races that actually was cloudy for the entire race - 2001 and 2013 are the other ones if memory serves correctly. The race in 2005 started cloudy but clear skies arrived later on for the majority of the race.

Yes, it is, but sadly, Robert Yates made his decision to get out of NASCAR after the 2007 season and folded the 88 team after that season was over. He had folded the 28 team after the 2002 season, but in the years before that, as you said, Yates Racing ran into many issues.

Any idea why they shortened the racetrack and got rid of those inner turns?
@Mikehergie10 жыл бұрын
I've been to several races here, and they reconfigured to (1) make it easier for the fans to see almost all the way around the course (they knocked down the hill in the carousel turn), and (2) create additional passing/braking zones. Before they reconfigured, the hairpin before the start/finish was about the only place you could pass.
@danieljackett41935 жыл бұрын
Indy Car used turns 4,5 and 6 when they raced here (last race was 2018), but turn 9 was cut out for a straight shot/double 90 degree turn , then they used a shorter hairpin to get a straight shot down to the start/finish line
