Note: This is NOT a "how to" but rather Mr. Rain just taking you along on his learning experience of replacing the bearings and seals on our 1994 Toyota Pickup. Part of self sufficiency is also self education and learning by doing. That is what this is.

Also wouldn't hurt to make sure your vent fitting on top of the rear end housing is all cleaned off so the differential can breath and so your new seals don't blow out from positive pressure build up inside the axle housing.

Wow!! That really was an adventure and I watched the whole video. It was truly interesting. I'm sure our ancestors did the same, they just didn't have the internet to show them how. When I was in high school (years ago), haha one of our gym classes ( a whole quarter), we were taught all of the parts of the car and how everything worked. You had to take the class especially since at the age of 16 you wanted to learn how to drive. Today's cars and trucks are so involved, that you need a professional mechanic to work on them. This was really great. Thanks for the ride. Lol. Peace and blessings.

Thanks Chris for sharing, It seems like we are in a disposable society as well. Sounds like you were really "schooled".

Nicely done. I'm hoping to trade for a '94 Toyota pickup this week (if the Lord's willing and the creek don't rise). Just trying to educate myself on future projects. Thanks

+When you are trying to remove nuts from studs or bolts that have been exposed to the weather, it is a good idea to soak the exposed threads and the nut with a penetrating oil. It can make removal of the nut much easier and prevent you from actually breaking the bolt or stud off. Good video though. Phil

Phil, you are absolutely correct! WD-40, Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, Berryman's B-12, And a MAPP gas torch are main staples to my shop! Thanks for sharing the tip -Mr. Rain

Sweetie, I think the background music was too loud, he couldn't hear me when I was yelling at the computer "No wait, Pat, do this first!" The jig for the press was truly inspired! Good job!

I have a 96 toyota tacoma 2 wheel drive. I found this really fascinating although I don't think I'll be doing this myself. A little too involved. How long did it actually take Mr. Rain to do this? I suppose I'll have to be taking my truck in and getting it done soon.

It took quite awhile, I had a lot of video to edit just to get it down below 45 mins!
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 7 жыл бұрын
It only took 45 minutes, did you see how fast I worked? Not really ;). I got creative with the bearing press but you could take the axle and break assembly with the new seals, retainer and bearings to a machinist or mechanic and have them press out/ in the new parts for you. Best wishes and thanks for watching! - Mr. Rain

Great vid mate ...rear bearings are a bitch to remove ... someone with Oxy makes the job easier ... the new bearings should be heat shrunk onto the shaft ... intense heat and a heavy hammer to reseat them ... Gotta luv the Hilux !!

Seeing that this video is pretty old, I won't be "losing the background music" as that would be impossible to do with this video. However, I (Heidi) am the one that does all the editing and have learned a lot in the past 3.5 years. Everything takes time and practice especially when we are just normal people figuring it out as we go
