@@BruceCarbonLakeriver It's interesting idea seriously. I saw on KZfaq a bmw e36 320i in pretty much good condition driven for many years in Africa. It seemed rust free and I thought it would be a good project to import it in Euro, restore it, and put it an a plateau with a sign that says "This car was once driven in Africa for ____ years."
@BruceCarbonLakeriver2 жыл бұрын
@@philipgligorov5848 True that. Especially in areas far away from the sea or any snow conditions. Those cars are in a top condition. I thought myself about that. But bureaucracy is gettin' a serious issue then. You might not have any papers since most african ppl don't give a bean on paper work (which is actually quiet pragmatic). But yes, I'd agree to your statement. Btw, it would even be pretty cheap since (lemme say 200€) would be a ton of money for most ppl in africa hence you'd get a car pretty quickly :D

Thanks for making and sharing these videos. Definitely a unique and more day-to-day view of a country not often visited by tourists but interesting nonetheless. And certainly puts many things into perspective too, for people that never visited Africa. Keep it up, there's a lot we can learn from these! Would be curious to see one of those W163 MLs on the channel one day :)

The green sticker has been in use in Germany since 2008, so this car has been there for... 14 years tops, where it would have been 17 years old tops. Probably written off after 2008 or so, for economic reasons, exported and ended up in Congo to be used for pretty much double its (intended) life span. Props on keeping these things running. My old, written off, "uneconomical to maintain" Audi A3 is probably also exported to god knows where. Hope it's used for many more years.

I was about to ask why you didn't keep it for the next winter, but then I realized if you bought it for 250€ and sold it for 500, it is most likely in need of repairs to be allowed on the streets in Europe and thus you sold it.

It's not every vehicle. On the streets most vehicles have intact wind shields. Everyday working people are poor they have to work 6 months for a new wind shield. And when they order one it takes 3 more months to arrive at the shop.

No air filter… I don’t know how these cars survive in conditions like this. Being in the US I’ve done motor swaps, trans swaps, axle rebuilds and other major repairs. Hell even my bike needs a carb rebuild once a year. It just blows my mind the things we take for granted. If these cars belonged to someone I knew I would lend a few hundred bucks and a weekend of repairs would go a long way, but somehow they stay on the road as is.

@someone99062 жыл бұрын
@@Dodo-yx2ge I have CV carbs on my bike, like a lot of bikes had oem, and can’t be cleaned properly without removal. The proper way of cleaning is dissembling, cleaning individual jets/needles/passages and then upon reassembling using new seals. I’d call this a basic rebuild, that’s what any shop would call it, and it is necessary on my bike and anyone running this setup should do this once a year. Everyone has their own maintenance schedule that works for them, clearly shown in this video, and if I could go 10 years without touching my carbs I would, but I can’t and most of the people I ride with that still have carbs on their bikes deal with the same thing.

I am amazed how is the ignition switch still working, these cars eat them up, amazing it doesen’t have push button start. The top engine cover is a 1.8 engine style, not a 1.4, and how is the seat in such good condition. Love this video, keep them up.
@mshathlonxp2 жыл бұрын
Wrong. The engine is big block engine, and therefore at least 1.6, and it's from generation older car, mk2 golf or B3 passat.
@braptechfun60362 жыл бұрын
@@mshathlonxp so you said the engine is not native to the mk3, so indirectly you're agreeing with me. I am familiar with the European market and some US variants, other markets may vary I guess. All 1.3 and 1.4 variants, no matter the year, on the european mk3 and mk2 have 3 main retainers for the upper engine cover, but the engine in the video has retainers around the engine cover and the cover style is identical to a 1.8 engine except the PCV valve hole.
@mshathlonxp2 жыл бұрын
@@braptechfun6036 you're partially right, but only partially. Valve cover held down by three central nuts were introduced on big block engines in mk3 period as well - only AFAIK on indirect injection diesels only - others probably reused older head castings or there were no space for those nuts on crossflow head engines. The easiest thing how to tell apart VW big block engine from small block engine is by location of distributor - it's at the end of the head on small block engines and on the edge of engine block on big block engines, apart from 16v engines. The same layout was kept when aluminium block engines with coil packs instead of distributors was introduced, only now with coil packs in places previously occupied by distributors.
