So doing some daily maintenance stuff this week on the VIP build s500. Finally got around to ordering new shifter light bulbs. Very easy to change out in these early w140 cars with the split center wood. Below is bulb
part # 12595 Philips

Thanks but I'm learning new things everyday. I just picked up another one that will be taking apart and using parts. It has a blown motor. Subscriber is hopefully bringing it down before new year. Hope to learn a lot more from this one

Hey Pete, me again. You have open my eyes for lots of things about my MB. Saw you take off center shift panel that much easy. After you took of the shifter cover you just ply up the piece? Is their any screws. I need to repair the sids and rear mirrors switch. Please advise. My is s500 w140 coupe 1993. Thank you for your help.

Yes but be careful prying. Use a plastic trim tool if you can. I see almost every benz with chips on edges of wood.

Pete do you know how to change bulb on shifter itself. The one it lights gear you are in to,so if you Select D for drive,this bulb will put more light on D.

Wow great question and I could be completely wrong but I don't think the 4 speed had this. At least mine never worked on either one I had. I now want to check my s600 with the 5 speed and see if it lights up each gear brighter like in a lot of cars. This is a great question though

@@petescarport there is one bulb below the stick and it moves with stick,so it lights current speed. I saw it on my w126,I was amazed by simplicity 😃

Well I will figure this one out. I am working on getting another parts car and will take apart the gear assembly on this and try to come up with an easy way to replace

Hi pete! I just bought myself a w140 yesterday. It was originally 400e with 4.2 liter motor. But somewhere along the line the previous owner had change them with s280 motor. I can understand that due to pricey roadtax we need to pay for bigger engine in our country. However my problem now is, the shift box stuck in 1st and wont shift anymore. Reverse is good. Pull it in 3rd, 2nd, and you can move the car. Just it is in the 1st gear only. What may cause the problem? And how do you recommend me to start with? This is my first benz and my first continental car. I hope you can advise me on getting my car on the highway again. Thanks!

That could be the conductor plate depending on what year the transmission is

There is a special tool to pull the radio. I have done it before but this time had a shop change it out.

So they sell one a chrome one and a wooden one but issue is the ones I find are all for the updated gear box 5 speed. I may try to see if I can find one online or maybe make one

The veneer surround was standard on V12 only. You can see all the parts if you search "Grupė: 26 GEARSHIFT MECHANISM - 090 FLOOR SHIFT USED WITH AUTOMATIC"

@@petescarport when i turn the car on he starts but when i gas it goes up rpm and makes a sound like something its cracking and sometimes i dont put pressure to gas pedal but the rpm goes higher by itself i dont know whats wrong i wish you will have an idea whats wrong with it✌

Based on that alone it sounds like throttle body.
