Yes. What makes it “under-appreciated” is because after the new Mamba opened in the late 90s and was heavily promoted for being their tallest roller coaster at 205 feet as high as a mountain, that’s where problems began to rise for the Orient Express, starting with that infamous incident in July of 1999 where the rear cars’ axles broke and left those riders stranded for about a couple hours until they were rescued, and then reliability was deteriorating even more that the maintenance was more than they could budget - which led to their final decision to axe it. Fortunately, they donated the head car of the third train with the official logo to the NRCMA in Plainview, TX and then brought it to the exhibit inside the Tivoli near the Fjörd Fjärlane ride in the Scandinavia section for this park’s 50th anniversary.

IKR? Sadly in its later life, it was malfunctioning often that they didn’t have any options besides axing it and building a new roller coaster in its place - the Spinning Dragons.

I rode the latter just by request of my niece at the time six years ago - I hated it, and it was rough.

That was the July 1999 incident that took place and stranded some riders past closing time until the local fire department could rescue them. Then it closed for the rest of the 1999 season until they did repairs and when that roller coaster was given a clean bill of health. But unfortunately, it suffered more and more down-time that the maintenance was no longer cost-effective.

@Turbo Shelby83 It may be a crime to some people, but if the maintenance is no longer worth it, then they don’t have a choice other than axe it. I know there are some movements from people having memories of these past rides; but none of that will make CF bring it back.
