Im gonna be getting a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with a 360 gas engine its been in the family since it was nearly new. I want to put a 12 valve cummins in it with a 6 speed any advice? I plan on finding a set of 3/4 ton axles for it

For not having a body lift with sas conversion what motor mounts did you use and did you have to modify the rear driveshaft carrier bearing ?

I made my own out of 1/4" steel and poly mounts. I didn't have to modify the carrier bearing but I had to have a custom driveshaft made with a new carrier bearing in the factory location.

Your craftsmanship is outstanding ! I just bought a 1984 k30 dually it has a turbo 400 with 205 transfer case and Dana 60 i am using it for my straight axle conversion. What adapter did you use for the 205 to bolt up to the 4L80? Also what parts did you put in your 4L80 to pull that kind of weight? Thank you very much

Thank you. I used an adapter and ring gear from Destroked.com. For the transmission, it has a triple disc billet converter, billet hardened input and intermediate shafts, 6 pinion planetary set and a larger sprag with more clutches and steels.

Awesome rig man! How much of a lift did you put on the truck? I have the same truck, exact color it was on the before picture. But mine has a 5 Speed manual trans NV4500 I believe, I’m going to be doing the same conversion in the next couple years. Was wondering if you have any tips/advice. What size wheels and tires are on their? Thanks bud. Again beautiful truck can’t wait to do mine

It gained 6" with a straight axle conversion kit. I used shackle flip kits on the rear which left it sitting the way you see it. Technically, there is no lift on it. Rims and tires are Alcoa Dura-brites 22.5's and Goodyear G622 tires. My advice: plan everything out and don't half ass anything.

Awesome build man, I dream of one day doing a Cummins conversion to the GMT400 body style of Chevy/GMC trucks. Was there any clearance issues with the intercooler piping, and did anything have to be chopped up (grille, headlights, bumper etc.) or to get the intercooler to fit?

The core support had to have some trimming for the piping and just some minor clearancing on the grill

Just the plastic backing plate the headlights are mounted to. The lights themselves are fine if you get the pipe routing in the right place.

Nice .Alot of hard work to get it there. I have a similar truck but have not done the cummins swap ( I have a new 6.5 Turbo in it) or solid axle front yet. I have the 6"suspension lift, Silverline dual 5 inch stacks like yours, and 35x12,50R16. Looks agressive as hell.DO you ever have any electrical issues pop up from your swap? All Mechanical 12v? Actually it doesn't have a lift. That's just the amount of clearance gained from the straight axle conversion kit. The stacks are 8". No I don't really think I've had any electrical issues. Almost all connections have been soldered with heat shrink tubing and put in a loom. And yes, the engine itself is still all mechanical. Thanks for watching!

It just depends on how out of control you get. I think you could do just the engine swap for a few thousand. I didn't want any Dodge parts on mine so that made it more expensive with things like adapter plate, trans controller, built trans, transfer case swap, etc.

I gotcha, I was gonna do a 2nd gen dodge 1500 with either a 4bt or a 12 valve non common rail, but is still have to get a 2500 or 3500 frame, single cab 8ft bed, nv4500, np211 or np205 trans case, and build 2 dana 60 axles, plus a few bells and whistles lol

I think I ordered them from Summit Racing. Just 12" LED strips I think.

Did you have to chop the back side of the grill and such to fit the radiator and intercooler or did you do a body lift and slide everything back?

No body lift, just the lift from doing the axle conversion. I had to do just a little clearance work on the grill for the ends of the intercooler, nothing major

Yea, I'm thinking my grill might be a little different. I've heard about the modification but never actually seen it. My truck is a GMC so I'm not sure if the two are identical in design and just different cosmetically.

Yeah I don't know how much they are different. You can see my modifications from the front by looking inside the grill but probably wouldn't notice it unless I pointed it out.

Charles Stevenson im currently doing on and my condenser sits to far forward with the 3inch intercooler. so ive cut the core support in half length ways and moved the condenser down about 1.5 inch.

I relocated my condenser under the truck and used a 4" intercooler. That gave me a lot more room.

No not necessarily. I've seen conversions done with a Dana 44 or Dana 60 ball joint axle but looking at the ball joint problems in Dodge trucks, I wanted something more heavy duty.

There is no lift kit on it. The lift is from doing a straight axle conversion and shackle flip on the rear. The tires are about 35"-36" low-pro semi tires on 22.5" Alcoa's.

I found a set with Dura-brite fronts and outers, steel inners, decent tires, adapters... everything I needed used from a guy for like $2900. I couldn't pass that deal up. Those tires were just recently replaced with a more aggressive Goodyear. Definitely changes the way it looks.

what is the diameter of your tires and your axle ratio. ive got 410s and may go to 35s to keep cruising rpms down

The tires measure about 35" and I run 4.56 axles. I do a lot of heavy towing though but overall it works great.

At regular highway speeds 55-65 mph it's about 15-17 mpg. I don't do much interstate driving.

i have a 91 chevy Scottsdale 1500....i personally love this body style i actually want to buy a dually in this body style and put a cummins in it....thanks for showing us how beautiful of an idea it is....btw that cummins sounds like murder with them stacks

No problem. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The exhaust sounds like that because it's 5" from the turbo back to a 5" Y then 8" stacks. Definitely gives it a deeper tone.

Thank you! I can't remember honestly. I would have to go look through all my papers. It's one of the best aftermarket hoods I've found though. It doesn't sound like lightweight junk when you shut it.

Workmanship looks first rate but I hope you are very wealthy and do this as an expensive hobby and do not live in a house that worth 24% the value of your truck. So many people with trucks like this have nothing but the truck and very large diesel bills.
