1998 Top Gear - Tiff Needell races BTCC at Brands Hatch

Also featuring a moany Nigel Mansell who crashed in both races in exactly the same place.
Interesting fact: I was spectating this race and was one of those fans who got Tiff's autograph while he was sat on the sunroof of that car :-)

"For the third time in four races, the Mansell Mondeo ended it's race in the barriers". Given that Tiff and Nigel hate each other, I bet that gave him a lot of pleasure to do that voice over!

i dont think tiff hates or hated nigel. in both this race and when he accidentally punted nigel off in 1993, tiff just seemed bemused by mansell's animosity. but yes it probably did give him a bit of a tickle

Mansell just didn't adjust his mindset to closed wheel racing at all. He thought he could pull off an F1 style move and the other guy (in this case Tiff) would be "Oh, after you, sir". Doesn't work in BTCC at all. Now when Johnny Herbert had a crack at BTCC it was different. Its a damn shame he didn't continue.

That's a yes, He certainly was arsey. I don't know if the years have brought him any humility, I doubt it. But like George Bush now basks in the glow of Trumps banality, Mansell can look at Hamilton and smile. History just god kinder to him by default.

Yep. Most people I know that have met him (through his now ex-golf course and kart track) say he's a grade A bellend...actually they use a stronger term than that which begins with C.

Frank Williams certainly didn't fall for his antics in 1992, even when Nigel Mansel just won the F1 title. Nigel tried to bluff Frank over a new contract and dared Frank to get rid of him. Frank's response? "Fine, fuck off then, see ya" Frank 1 Nigel 0

A feeling i get is that he seems very focused on speaking to the camera as fast as he see it. Maybe that takes energy from the main task of why he is there - the driving

Yes they reversed the order of the top two and they’ve put Reid back to second behind Rydell so as a result Reid never gets a win in the feature race at brands hatch
