God that intro
@clarissamcpigeon78576 жыл бұрын
It's very typical of BBC shows around that time and there are other BBC intros that are much the same.

Better than nowadays of course.

@AlexGRFan97 but that's the thing people didn't get in the 1990s, just throwing as much shit on the screen as technology permitted doesn't work

Like many enthusiasts, I copied the Top Gear consensus that it was 'Jaguars weakest moment'. Now I own an X350 while living in a city with tight streets, I can see the benefits of a car with slightly smaller outside dimensions. The interior of an XJ is cramped anyways. I actually like the facelift model. The S type R facelift is my favorite. I really think it could have been more succesful if it had offered those bumpers as an R package on regular models, at an earlier moment. The image problem was caused by many of the cars on the road, being delivered in grandpa spec with a boring colour and small wheels, lots of chrome. The retro lines worked well with the villanous touch of the S-Type R facelift. The same goes for the X358 facelift compared to the X350. I really think Ian Calumn understood the X350 design better than at the moment the X350 came out. Maybe it was Ford who told them to add so much chrome to the X350, I couldn't tell. Removing the plastic mid door protection strip made the car look way less bulky. Add the big wheels make the x358 looks like a Hotwheels version of a classic Jag, rather than a fat version of it. 17 inch and even 18 inch make the car look fat, they're too much inset and too small considering the height of the body. Also, the chrome strip that goes across the bootlid is now wider, making the car look low and wide from behind, instead of high and narrow. Finally, removing the chrome around the front and back windows emphasised the chrome window line on the side of the car, making the car visually longer and slimmer. The huge parts of blacked out glass on the front and rear glass don't show as much as on an x350, especially in darker colours. I really think the X358 encapsuled way more what a Jag XJ should be. It was originally designed to be a 4 door E type by sir Willilam Lyons. While the X350 can be very boring looking, in many configuarations, the X358 is always a bit naughty. It's a big car, that's not ashamed of it.

Actually the platform for the S-Type was in development at Jaguar before Ford took over and the Lincoln LS used the same platform. So it was the other way around. After Ford got rid of Jaguar a Lincoln would never drive as well as those Jaguar based ones did.

is this film or video? looks film to me, but that's weird considering it was 1999 - i believe video was easy to shoot outdoors; i.e. the video equipment was small and easy enough to carry around outside
@JabrHawr3 жыл бұрын
okay, probably this was intentional to make it resemble whatever show they are imitating (the guys with the cockney accent) - maybe that show is old, so. also, i feel this may have been an 'effect', and not real 'film'.
