I bought a 99 corolla last year for 2k. This car is my everyday car commuting 80-100 miles a day. Had no issues with the winter here in Chicago. It’s by far the best car I have had. Before this car I had a 06 BMW X5 and its was a money pit.

This generation of Corollas in my mind was the best. Timing chains and reliable as can be with regular oil changes.

Those cars are great cars, cheap to maintain and the run forever

Just keep up the oil changes and they will just keep on going.

Just parted ways with mine this past January, was sad to see it go. A very reliable car indeed.

0:16 there is another corolla of the same generation. these cars are not exciting but they are great and you see them almost every day on the road despite them being over 20 years old why? they are basic cars to get from A to B. they are reliable and they will never leave you stranded. even when they do fail badly it is cheap to fix. they just keep going and doing exactly what they were designed to do and that is be a basic A to B car that is good on gas and is reliable. and they will continue to do that for many years to come. so i hate when people hate on old corollas because they are boring. because they are a car that does not lie about it's personality. is is a basic corolla, that is all it ever way, all it will ever be and it is not trying to be something else. but as long as you realize that the old corollas are just basic cars, you will get along fine, because there is not reason to hate on them because 20 years later they are still doing their job perfectly fine just as they did when they were new.

VE stands for Value Edition. I own a 98’ Corolla VE. Its the lowest model you could buy at around $9,500. Its so low that it only had radio and no cassette.

In California the same VE model was $10500 because of the CA emissions package. I live in CA. Different catalyst, different ECM but overall same car. With the added option was A/C.

I'm about to go look at one tomorrow for $1000 with 180k km. Do you think it's still worth buying in 2020?

If the body is in good condition no with no rust you will have no problems. Keep an eye on oil consumption, it's normal for them to burn some oil, just add as needed. These engines will run forever with no other maintenance.

Nothing boring about not breaking down, good gas milage and not having a car payment. I have a Vibe with the Corolla drive train. It allows me to have a second car for the summer when driving is fun. . . .BMW M3.

@@fallguy4209 Yes he's a bit dry. Plus he gets rid of a Corolla with a non interferance timing belt for a Honda? I don't understand that at all. The Corolla is so much better built than the Honda.

@@pbattis1 some people like him just never learn and they gotta learn the hard way. He probably never even heard of winter tires. Fun cars with 5 speed manual.
