The battery holders nut is 13mm, The battery post are 8mm and the nuts the brackets is 10mm

Another socket you can use is a 5/16 if you don't have a 8 mil

I know this video is 8 years old but I really have to thank you for keeping it up on KZfaq. Saved me a huge headache, especially since auto zone is useless. I'm not too handy myself, but this was so simple a moron like me could accomplish it.

Thanks for the video, Joe... What's dumbfounding is that I've been swapping out batteries since long before you were born, and was stymied trying to get one out of the Chevy today. (*WTF?!?! Did these SOBs superglue the damned thing down or what?!*) Y'know, we had this perfected a long time ago. Big battery area so you could upgrade to a heavier battery if you wanted... Big, easy to see and reach top-mount terminal clamps... And simple, over-the-top hold-down bracket. We should get whomever designed this side-mount, bottom-locked nonsense out here and let him swap batteries in the 2005 Silverado while I do the same on my 1974 Dodge pickup... For every minute longer it takes him to git 'er done, we get to whomp him with a tire tool.

Hi, Joe. Very nice video. It's obvious you are a good, and well-organized mechanic. I was pulling the battery from my 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 6.0 And to my surprise it didn't want to come out. I saw that center/hold-down flange and the bolt, gave it a couple of turns, and thought, since I live way in the boonies, I don't want to mess this up, decided to educate myself on the matter and found your really great video. Thanks very much, we appreciate it. I hope you're making more videos on Silverados. What a great truck.

I installed the MT 78 Interstate on my truck. That battery does not have a handle on it. It is hard to take one out and put another in without a handle. Thus, I took a strong nylon cord to make a handle. There is a spot on each side at the top in which you can run the cord around. I crisscross the cord. Your instructions are great.

Thanks for sharing this. I looked this up when I disconnected the terminals and the battery wouldn't budge. It wasn't clear that the bottom clamp had to be removed.

Thank you! I didn't see the center bolt. One little thing that would have helped - what size is the bolt? it's a trial and error with a hard-to-reach bolt head. Thanks again for making this video.

check fuse for ecm b and fuse for fuel pump

you are supposed to jumper 12v before disconnecting the battery. you keep memory that way

I have a 2001 3500 GMC diesel minibus and I cant figure out why I apparently have one battery. Replaced the battery and won't just doesn't seem to do it, won't turn over. Any thoughts? Thank and happy new year.

so being of that age definetly check for good ground cables to engine and frame they can deterioate over time especially from excessive load from the engine but some diesels were equipped with one batt but you can add a secondary following the electrical digrams

saftey should be negative off first and then positive can be touched with out any issues

Thanks for the video, but on a side note. Petroleum jelly is not silicone based so not good for rubber seals.
