This saved me so much time and trouble. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this. Recording and posting these instructional videos is a selfless act of kindness, for complete strangers. This is nothing short of charity.

Thank you so much for this video! Most of the videos don't show the details on how to get to the blend door actuator and that is the most important part for a DIYer.

Do you know if I can go thru the glove box and just manually put the door in place and leave it or even wire it in place?

Great video. That generation F150 are some of the best all around trucks ever built bar none. I just bought my 4 th one and I'm never getting rid of it 😊

Thanks for posting! This is the only video I found that actually shows where the screws are that hold the lower plenum in place, and what all you have to remove to get to the actuator. Now I know how to proceed.

Thanks man, yep, that ducting was a pain but your video told me what I needed to know. I used some thin wire to hold the screws in the holes for the ducting which helped me get a socket on them to be able to tighten them. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video.

Thank you sir for this video. I tried to repair mine a few years ago and couldn't find any instructions. Ford said it would cost $1000 to repair. I cut out holes in vent in order to manually shift blender door. Now I will try again! You had a good helper too.

I have a 2002 with 140,000 miles. I love my truck. I always wondered what was under that dash at the floor. I love the young man with the tool in his hand. Grown man in the making.

Thank you so much for the video. My 2001 F150 stopped blowing hot air yesterday and when I took it in they said that its the blend door. So I took and endoscope and tried to see between the little gap between on top of the actuator. No visible movements were seen when switching from hot to cold (and no sounds of the door opening and closing). But after watching your video I feel more confident to get it fixed safely knowing what needs to come out (including the airbag control module!)

I take care of mine very well and it has 460,000 miles. Still running well.

Thats Amazing! Maybe when you hit 1/2 million. Ford will trade you for a new one.

@@TheNextAdventureWeTri That would be awesome but they are not giving away anything these days. It's cheaper to keep them running than to replace them.

This is a great video so I thought I'd leave this here. To anyone this helps, I've had an actuator crumble to pieces in a 99 Windstar - much like its door motors. The new actuator didn't last long on a sticky blend door (very common.) That site you mentioned is great, that's where I first learned of their workarounds and upgrades. Free invaluable information is uncommon by most corporate logic. I never upgraded it or cut into it, but I could have. My uncle was driving it and BANG! lost oil pressure. The oil pan had a hole that something had shot OUT of it. When I pulled the motor I saw the firewalll side head had blown a chunk off! I've read that can happen when the head becomes part of the firing chamber 😂 *Definitely take your hand and feel the blend door working or better yet try to listen for it before messing with it. If it's quiet enough you should hear that door opening and closing. This can help you source the parts before you go diving in.* Someone had already replaced the actuator, I think, because it was missing the back screw on my F150 and the right side vertical screw area had a piece missing for "ratchet access" because its recessed. I'd recommend a swivel or just break the molding in the way😂 Good luck. Mine has wet carpet, so I guess I'll be replacing the heater core AND HOSES next. I smelled coolant and saw a fog coming from the vents last year, so I already have the parts. I'm guessing she's clogged up. I did have low coolant and it was muddy which is common in these trucks if not flushed regularly which would cause parts to fail prematurely. I'd guess the radiator is next. A side note, it was confusing to diagnose initially because the heat didn't work but then it did and then it didn't again. I was sure I didn't move the temp knob so I could rule most of this out, but actually not because I've disturbed it's wiring since I've upgraded the stereo when I should've spent that money on maintenance. You can live and learn but maybe reading youtube comments can help.

Thanks so much for this video, it helped tremendously. Now on to my passenger side half door. Replacing the plastic cable guides with aluminum so the door will open. Did the other years ago. Ordered my actuator already. Thanks again.

Good video, glad you got it working. I did cut a piece out behind glove box and made access to blender door. It's ok so I took the actuator out and it's bad so I'll replace it. It was nice to see your son was cheering you on !

How do you tell if this has gone bad my truck only does cold air but not very cold air and the heater does not work at all
@frankc64303 жыл бұрын
I was told that my actuator was bad because I only get heat not even cool from outside (my ac is not cooling at all right now)... I heard yours working ,I do not hear mine...should be bad right?...thanks for the video I was told it would cost $400+ parts and 2 days to drop the dash to get to the actuator and this is why I do research ,to see if "mechanics" are telling me the truth or not...thank you and youtube encyclopedia !( I don`t care how long it will take me because if this can cost me $500 to pay someone else I rather do it myself even if it takes me 2 or 3 days and have a nice rib diner on top !)

Thanks for the video. I replaced my heater core and blend door and then found the actuator was frozen. Can’t figure out if I have something unplugged or it’s busted. At this point I’m going to take out the actuator so I can put the dash back together.

So I replaced my actuator because I wasn't getting any heat. I called a few shops and 1 didn't know how to go about repairing this and the other didn't know how to fix this. They suggested pulling the dash, 8 hours labor costing $1000. Even though mine was a little different, 2001 F150, all the info was basically the same. The savings was $949 because the part was $51 and it only took me about 2 hours.

How do you tell if the actuator pin aligns with the female blend door hole?
@kevinfleming58493 жыл бұрын
FYI to any supercrew owners, the ducting under the actuator is impossible to remove unless you remove the front seats, carpet, and rear floor ducting. Effing mother of all hassles.
@MightyMo11B2 жыл бұрын
Just discovered this. I bent the duct in front of the seats. I’d rather do that than cut, and rather cut than remove everything! No video outlined this and I was baffled for a minute.

Hmm does anyone know why the air stops coming out the vents when i accelerate form 50 to 75 mph? And comes back after i let the gas go. I got a 2002 f150 single cab.
@markbailey55122 жыл бұрын
Sadly after I got all the parts out I found that the gear teeth that the actuator goes into were crumbled, as you had mentioned. So now maybe the blend door itself needs to be replaced.

It should help it if the actuator is broken
@javiroo17433 жыл бұрын
Yours probably got stuck in the ac part. So yes it will help if that's what is wrong with it.
@clawhammer704 Жыл бұрын
It’s either the blend door that’s broke at the base or the actuator motor is broke. Check the actuator first by putting a finger on the base under the actuator while u switch from hot to cold to see if the actuator is working. If the actuator is turning then it’s the blend door base is broke.
