The preludes "acoustic feedback system" was standard on all 5th gen ludes. Was their premium sound system for the time. Microphones were supposedly built into the rear speakers, which were meant to help smooth out sound distortions.

I had a 98, same color combo and was a 5 speed manual. Such a great car. I wish I had it back. Was my daily driver for 15 years

That's a clean car it's the stepchild of the JDM vehicles

Acoustic feedback system - the head has microphones and it compares the output signal (speakers) to the input (microphone) and adjusts the output to optimize the sound. This also made aftermarket parts incompatible with that head.

the cupholder and ashtray is on the passenger side in japan tho. Honda just didnt bother to relocate them

The acoustic feedback system has microphones built into it that sampled the sound in the car and of it detected any sound not originated from the system like distortion it would shut off to prevent blowing the speakers or causing any other damage. I had the stereo in the prelude I had shut off once when I played it too loud.

So excited to start driving mine...

I destroyed 3 of the 4 speed SportShift transmissions. The original was under 36k miles. Bought it new from 11/97 to 7/04 ...155k miles, traded, $5k. The Stereo supposedly had a microphone in the system which was to listen to its system & adjust the sound level with respect to volume & the road noise.

Thoughts as a Lude owner. 1. The Auto is GARBAGE. By the time the Auto is dropping into gear for a pull I'm already near redline ready to slap it into the next gear. It's not a matter of IF the auto will fail, its WHEN. The manual is super notchy and feels FANTASTIC. 2. With full ground control suspension, you can induce oversteer much like a RWD mid corner. Toss it into the corner and let off the throttle, you can skid the rear. 3. People always mistake it for an S13 (rear angle) or any other long nosed coupe. Nobody ever seems to know that the hell I'm driving. 4. H22 is a very good sounding engine, with great low end torque for its size, especially compared to the B series sounds very throaty and deep, nothing like a beehive you expect to hear. Great review, long live the Prelude. Value is going up so now is the time to snag one!

My daily is a 1999 Prelude with the 5speed and i love. it, almost two year's and it took me everywhere. I would defiantly recommend the it with the 5 speed over automatic for reliably and better driving experience.

Love clean preludes they make me happy, Also have a bone stock prelude with only 70k miles on the clock

Always wanted to get one of these but the Type SH, apparently makes it feel rear wheel drive..

I’m very uneducated when it comes to cars but my grandpa had a prelude 1999 and when she died she gave it to us and for awhile I was thinking of getting rid of it but now I think it would be kinda neat to deck it out.

for an over 20years old car, this is in a fair good shape

They got rid of the digital gas gauge?! Lame. Mine is a 92 and it has the futuristic digital gauge. At least feels futuristic for a 30 yr old car.

Not too bad but you still need to learn. Prelude it's the best as it is. Drifting has nothing to do with fast driving. Around 200hp on RWD means nothing against same power FWD .On track was better than any other Honda in its time except ITR and Nsx. ITR just had shorter gears and stiffer suspensions OEM. Prelude was more a luxury car .With just some coilovers Preludes were better . H being way better engine than any B.

If Honda only kept it.....it should have rivaled the Nissan 370Z and or the Toyota FT-86....... .........since the Accord coupe, although have filled its void, it has never matched it's sporting allure

S2000 came out, attention shifted away from this car. Acura back with Type S.
