It wasn't the trans, it was the fact that these cars were FWD that was the real limitation. We have V70's of 2002 and 2007, solid vehicles as far as it goes.

T6 GM 4 speed auto is not the same as the 5 speed AW in the V70.

The transmission was actually terrible. It was basically a FWD Impala/Grand Prix/other GM shitbox trans. It wasn't even the beefed up version used in the Grand Prix GTP. They would last 80,000-90,000 miles, tops, if driven easily.

...brilliant looking car and really nice comfortable interior, handles well and still quite quick... but the transmission was terrible...

Call My Uncle had a 1999 first year came out. Interior was very weak on the ceiling part of the car and the leather was already chopping up and peeling on the door the second year. But otherwise that car was awesome far as performance and looks

I always wanted to know why the back doors had lights on them but not the front doors.

these were not that reliable last I recall .. The transmissions on these were garbage and if I'm not mistaking they also blew a head gasket but I'm not sure on that one and I believe the XC 90 was built on this platform

You're right. The transmissions were prone to failure and the awd models had a lot of issues. It would be difficult for anyone to find one of these in good condition for sale now on sites like Craigslist. I think these had timing belts and when the value dropped below 5k I doubt anyone was spending the money to service them like they needed.

@@zzoinks It is but each of them generally needed a transmission or new engine, Which was still relatively expensive back then it may be a little cheaper to repair these days

@@JDMHaze That makes sense, nobody wants to buy a car that will crap out. I watched Car Wizard and found out that the 04 and newer S80s are good cars, so they may be a hidden gem. The trans in the T6 version was not good yes. Otherwise great large sedan. Have owned a 04 2.5t AWD myself.

@santileonsteinberg1441 There were not Lexus quality. But the engine was overall reliable. My 2001 has always had lots of little problems through years.
