I have owned and driven pre-2006 model S80's for the last 15 years and I can tell you they are one of the best cars on the road. My total capital expenditure over 15 years has been £5,000 (taking account of purchase and resale prices). Total repair bills over same period = £ZERO. Beat that! I currently own a 2005 S80 with only 40,000 miles on the clock that cost me £3,500 - fantastic bargain, good for the next 45 years or so!

Great story, I can imagine that a lot of owners can relate to those figures 👍. I don't think it's too crazy to say that the S80 of that era is probably the true successor of the Mercedes of the early nineties.

Just picked up a 2001 S80 base model (2.9) about a month ago with only 98k miles. This car is so clean for being over 20yrs old. The original Fuel Filter and Pump were a little grimey. Also took me about 3 days to diagnose what ended up being the pump relay under the dash. I'm stubborn though, so I was learning as I went. Would have been about an hours worth of work in the shop. The car runs fantastically though. Looking forward to maintaining this thing for at least another 20 years!

As someone who owns a first-generation 2000 Volvo S80 i love the car. I think it's a beautiful and stylish luxury car. And it drives and handles very elegantly. is truly not a thing I dislike about the car I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's into Volvo. Volvo definitely hit the nail on the head when designing this car.

Great video! Very informative. I have a 2004 S40 that runs great and handles really well. The 1.9 turbo is fun on the highways when needed. Loving that Volvo did away with the box look years back and moved forward with the sleek sedans. They all look awesome. Planning on getting a S80 in the future.

Thanks for sharing. To tell the truth, I´ve been in love with the first generation S80 after facelift for quite a few years now :) I´m on my 4th one, actually :) I tried the T6, D5 manual, 2,5 T manual and finally setteled on the one I´m driving now- the D5 120 kw automatic. They are getting rather old now (mine has got 413.000km on the clock) but they still run and if taken care of they will run for a long time. I´ve been eyeing the gen II model but I just do not like the round shapes of the front...of all the models from that era. Now the new models, the S90....that is a jackpot hit!

IMHo the S80 was the last true Volvo. I love my S 80 very much, especially for its looks, comfort, safety and power. Greetings to all Volvo fans around the world! :)

Just bought a 2004 S80 V6 for $500 that had sat for a year, even with a coolant leak, radiator puncture leaking more, low oil, and low power steering it ran for days not too bad until I could fix it up

The p2 s80 doesn’t get enough love in America because they only got the 6 cylinder models in the states until 2004 when they introduced the 2.5t to the line up and finally got rid of the GM 4speed that caused so many issues. I’m glad I have my 2.4i. Amazing fuel economy and power delivery for a small engine in a big car.

Lori Rogers oh the later t6 don’t have transmission issues. You have a p3 when they switched to I think the ft80 trans which is really reliable so you don’t have to worry about that. Just do scheduled maintenance like the belts and transmission fluid etc and you’ll have very little issues. The p2 chassis t6 which was from 1998-2006 were the problem childs haha

Lori Rogers yeah as long as you don’t ignore things on the car and find a good mechanic that is trustworthy. It will treat you well. Sometimes things do go wrong on them. Like it may only be the v8 models but I’m not sure but I remember there being a rear subframe rust issue so I would have that checked by a mechanic since you live up north. An independent Volvo technician maybe a good place to go if you don’t already have a trusty mechanic. But if you catch the rust soon enough it’s possible to use rust reformer to kill the rust before it’s an issue. Although it may only be a v8 model issue. I’m used to the south not having rust issues so I forgot to mention that before.

Lori Rogers you are very welcome. It seems you are all set to go. Volvo really does know how to make a car even if it has a few flaws. But no car is without its flaws. Enjoy your s80 😊.

I would love to. But my videos are about the often forgotten history of Cheap Cars. And the Gen 2 is still a bit too expensive I'm afraid. There will soon be a full on review on the S80 with some very interesting... Effects.
