The undefeated St. Louis Rams hosted the win-less Cleveland Browns on week 7 of the 1999 season. Hall of Fame Running-Back Marshall Faulk started for the Rams after staying in a St. Louis hospital overnight with an illness and made the greatest touchdown run of his career.

No one ever mentions Marshall Faulk for greatest running back. He definitely was the greatest dual threat I've ever seen.

@Marquis De Sade M.Faulk was the best player in the NFL from 1999-2001 hands down, and he may be the best all around back when it comes to being a between the tackles feature back and a RB who can catch balls outta the backfield and/or go in motion and make plays while lined up as a WR...he was also their smartest player, made their presnap reads and line calls, and if Mike Martz had remembered who his best player was instead of calling plays as tho Kurt Warner was the best player on that team the Rams would have won at least 1 more SB. I cant think of too many others if any who rival his all around greatness, and any RB who plays these days isnt on a level playing field with him, because the game has gotten so pass happy and pass friendly that not only is it easier to match or exceed his statistical achievements as a receiver, due to defenses using their nickel and dime packages far more often than they did during Faulks era, its also gonna be easier to gain rushing yds on carries between the tackles

@Marquis De Sade Emanuel's catch would've left them with a 3rd and 11 for a first down at the 23. They had that catch because the Rams played soft BECAUSE it was 2nd and 23. Stop it.

@Marquis De Sade Even if the pass wasn't ruled incomplete the Bucs wouldn't have scored a TD. That Buccaneers offense just couldn't handle the pressure the Rams defense was giving them

@@dp233332 In Super Bowl 36 the Patriots were mainly playing against the pass. If Martz just ran the ball more that game could have went much differently

@@Ofnir_1 i totally agree and Im a patsfan but I was there when the rams beat us at NE on 11-18-01...they ran it more with faulk that night...hell he had just gained11 or so yrds for a 1st down 1 play before the Ty Law pick 6...shoulda just given him another carry instead

That 1999 Rams team was just special. Everyone knows about the offense. Warner's journey from grocery bagger to Super Bowl MVP is just really glorious. Bruce, Holt and Faulk ran the Greatest Show alongside him. What no one talks about is the defense. They were like a Top 5 defensive team in the league too which was insane. London Fletcher, Kevin Carter, Todd Lyght and D'Marco Farr led that defense to huge success. We also have to talk about Orlando Pace. Offensive tackles normally don't get enough praise for their efforts. Pace was an absolute stud as Warner's blindside protector.

I used to go to Milwaukee Mustangs games when the Arena League was around. Kurt would come in with the Iowa Barnstormers and kill it every time. He was too damn accurate.

If you look at Faulk’s numbers from 98-01 they were insane and pretty consistent. People tend to forget he was with the colts and played with manning for a year. But his numbers were almost identical all 4 years (long time for RB), 1300 rushing 900 receiving.

I couldn’t stand Marshall Faulk at the time cause he was so good it was nothing you could do with him. He was the X factor for that offense. He changed the running back position. It was a lot of big backs at that time but the dual threat he posed to defenses made the nfl change what they went after in running backs and u see it today still

One of the things I recall about this great Rams championship season is that there were teams that were talking a lot of shit the week before playing the Rams. This only fired up the defense and especially MLB London Fletcher, who collectively went after them with a vengeance. Other than the no-name WR on the Browns, the Giant's FB also talked a lot of trash and both were targeted.

What's really overlooked with the '99 Rams team is how solid their defense was. I really wish we didn't let go of London Fletcher. He had a fantastic NFL career.

Unfortunately, the NFL has blocked Week 8 @Titans, Week 9 @Lions, and Week 13 @Panthers. I have no idea why they block certain games, yet allow all these other ones. :(

Tim Couch could have been an elite QB if he just had the right weapons around him. The Cleveland Browns organization really hung him out to dry.

That has to be demoralizing to be down by 14 before your offense even runs a play.
