The song is from a 1970's rock opera called Starmania. Dimash has made it his own with his interpretation and it became a sad anthem for him that he dedicated to his best friend, Denis Ten, a famous Kazakh ice skater, who was murdered shortly before guesting on one of Dimash's concerts. So it means a lot to him in that way and also because it was this song that sent him viral after he sang it on a Chinese singing competition in 2017. Dimash has a 7.2 vocal range and sings all genres from Opera to pop, rock, folk, classsical, jazz and he also raps in some of his songs. He is also a multi-instrumentalist and composer. It's been a weird few years for me...musically. First I fell in love with Billy Strings...a bluegrass/country guy...not really my cup of tea...but I became obsessed. Next, I found Ren, Hi Ren...and I was SO MOVED! I probably cried 30 times watching Hi Ren ...then, before I was done being obsessed with Ren...BAM! Dimash got me! The "ooo oo oo ooo" at the beginning of Hi Ren was almost like foreshadowing of Dimash. Now, Billy Strings, Ren, and Dimash are weirdly linked in my mind.
