Raise your hand if prying that rubber upper mount cap off was the most time consuming step of the whole process. Mine looked like it was glued on.

@@1AAuto You guys have the shock absorber in your store but do you also have the big metal mount it slides into which attaches to the car, and the rubber/plastic boot as well as the rubber cap? I am trying to replace mine but noticed the mount has a cracked bolt hole and a chunk has fallen off. AutoZone doesn't have them and I can't find them on your website

Anyone else struggling with removing the rubber boot thing: I don't know if mine were different (2008 elantra sport) but they DO remove fully. It seems the rubber is glued to some metal/plastic ring, and it's this ring that comes off. You don't need to be tearing off rubber. My first one came out easily, but not the second one. You need to push it around it's sides/play with it so that it gets unstuck.

I have an issue with my Elantra HD. The rear suspension had all its bushings replaced, the end links were replaced and shocks (genuine) replaced. Immediately I noticed the ride at the rear was very stiff to a point that it doesn't really compress. A month later about 600 miles, the shocks were softer but I noticed knocking sounds when going over rough surfaced roads or bumps. Went back to workshop to tighten up every nut, checked rear brake calipers and pins were all good without play, but the knocking noise still present. Could the absorbers be faulty hence emitting knocking sound?

+Ian Polo Since there could be multiple reasons why you’re experiencing this difficulty with your vehicle, I strongly recommend that you have a reputable mechanic inspect it. They’ll be able to troubleshoot the problem and tell you what part or parts you’ll need for the repair.

My rubber boot on the top of the shock was stuck and I had to tear it off. I just pieced it back on before putting in the new shock and it looks pretty snug. Am I running any major risks doing this?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 4 жыл бұрын
+James Nicolaus Thanks for checking us out! This is mainly to prevent any debris from getting caught up in the shock. We would recommend keeping the boot intact however if it is for a short time, there shouldn't be any major issues until you get it fixed.

@@1AAuto Biggest problem is able to remove the mounting bolts holding the upper mounts from underneath. I am not sure if I can remove those bolts! If I have a long extension to my ratched and have a mirror to see what I am doing, that might work. I am not sure if the rough noisy ride I have is from the shocks or the upper shock mounts. The upper mounts are about the same cost as the monroe shocks. Hard stiff noisy ride on rough road . Car is 10 years old but only 82,0000 kms. What do you think.....Thanks
