I got a p2138 code on a 2006 malibu . It came to me in limp mode . I called the parts store and had them order the gas pedal assembly . I pulled the pedal assembly from the car and saw that the electrical component had a snap off cover 😀 . I popped it off and saw a rheostat with small copper fingers . I cleaned the contact area with a q-tip with alcohol on it . Reassembled it and erased the code with the code scanner , replaced the pedal assy. No expensive part needed . Easy peasy

One tip ... not challenging this guy by any means... When you are diagnosing, have piece of mind by checking resistance at the actual pedal. You started from the far end, worked your way in and STOP..."IT'S THE PEDAL!" ... don't do it like that. Add that one more step and check the terminals on the sensor itself(which ever you are working on). You very well might have a good sensor and the wires(although checked out) might have a wiggly issue in the wiring and just so happen to fool you at the final diagnosis leading you to believe the sensor when all it was was a chaffing wire that just so happen to not be at the final.

Great. So what happens when this is intermittent????? Get the code, car goes to limp. Stop the car, turn off the engine. Sit for one minute, restart car and NO limp mode and car runs fine.......go home. Restarts in morning and runs fine until it doesnt again.......and round and round....

I’m seeing a lot of GM cars have a condition where pushing the pedal, one sensor will move 1% before the other- won’t set a code. But under return, the one will return and the other won’t return to 0% position. That’s a difference of 2% total- That will set a code.

I just bought the pedal/sensor assembly for nothing. I each as many videos as I can and somehow skipped over this one. I watch 1A and have ordered parts in the past. After watching this video I did the test and my white/black wire is barely sending anything. Instead of something close like your 4.98 it isn’t even reaching one volt. It varies from .4 to .9. Trying to follow a break in a cable is going to be fun especially if somewhere in the middle. Learn from my lesson, guys.

I had this code on a Buick Enclave. Previous to that, I just assumed the engine was lackluster because it has 220,000+ miles. After replacing the gas pedal, it accelerates like it is new again. Thanks!

Interesting! Let me throw a wrench in here if I may. The only time I've ever got this code is when my Pedal Commander was hooked up. It works flawlessly for a couple months, and then all of a sudden it goes into limp mode on a start up. Disconnect the Pedal Commander and put it back to stock, problem goes away instantly. I've been working with the folks at PC for a few months trying to resolve this issue. They are good to deal with so I'm cautiously optimistic that we come to a good fix. I also run a Range Technologies AFM disabler, so we will see if the two together are causing an issue. I will reply back in the future when I have a solid cure.

Actually you don't want any contacts to have dielectric greese.. That's something you put over exposed parts of wire once they're already connected together ,,example a battery terminal that's been cleaned you have wires connected to the terminal you put a little bit of dielectric grease over to terminal thats already connected..It would basically insulate the exposed wire From the air

I'm at a loose end with mine. I'm getting the p2138 and p193b(throttle valve Signal error) various mechanics have looked. I know its not the pedal. App_d is fine, but app_e fluctuates. Really need some pointers. Great video though. 👍

My car also disables tracton control. I have changed the pedal once at 150k miles and just passed 300k and now its acting up again. I cleaned the connections to the pedal and also at the throttle, cleared the code and it seems to have resolved. For 150$ It maybe worth taking the plastic case off and clean it with electronic cleaner if it comes back. Lets see what happens 🙂

I have a couple questions ... 1. What if we have replaced the Accelerator position sensor and we are still getting the fault code ? Because I have replaced the APS as well, the Throttle Body Sensor and also did a fuel system cleaning but I am still getting that fault. I have a 2007 Hyundai Entourage 499900 mi on it. I've cleaned the throttle body possibly change the setting for the butterfly electronic control I also cleaned out the TPS, spark plugs look good wires are almost brand new, used a can of B12 to clean out fuel injectors, step on the gas pedal can't go past 50 mph really struggles, can I order the gas pedal accelerator sensor from 1A Auto for my vehicle and will this remedy at least let me know that there's nothing else that's wrong just the gas pedal. I do not get any check engine light or codes and I use the fixed OBD2 scan

Hey man. Recently bought a car and had to buy this paddle with the sensor like this one. But on the wiring harness to the clip onto the sensor, the person before me had tie them all together because they must've torn apart. How would I go about getting a new wire hardness to clip onto the sensor.

Can a dead, dead battery affect the APP sensor? My battery was dead for a few weeks, I just replaced the battery and now I’m having throttle issues. Had this sensor replaced 8/2018. Wondering if battery caused issue, or it just needs to be reset somehow? Thank you!
