Pro tip: you do not need to remove the intake or radiator hose to do this job. Just need to loosen the radiator hose brace and turn it out of the way. Steps go like this: remove belt, remove three bolts holding alternator, remove three electrical connections from alternator, loosen radiator hose brace and rotate out of the way, pull alternator out (towards battery). I got mine out, picked up a new one from the auto parts store, and reinstalled in under an hour. Super easy, thanks for the helpful video!

Why they removed everything is beyond me. maybe for video visuals. U can literally do this job in 20mins. Only remove intake piece and set aside. Leave belt on but remove from alternator obviously.

I watched several similar videos prior to tackling my alternator replacement for my 2003 F150 Lariat crewcab 4x4 shortbed 5.4L. BY FAR, this was the best, most informative video of the bunch. 1A Auto has the best videos for DIY guys like myself. Thank You!

Great video! I just used it to replace the alternator in my 1999 Ford Expedition 5.4L. The instructions worked perfectly!! There was enough room to do the entire repair from above and I didn't have to take the belt off all the way like in the video, I just pulled the belt off the alternator only. Thank you so much :-)

I just want to say thank for the video. I used this video to clear up a few areas I wasn't sure of. The tension pulley wasn't as hard to do as I thought. I used a 1/2 ratchet and the handle wasn't that long. I got up on my truck and put the ratchet under the fan wheel. I pressed down to loosen tension and slid my belt right up on the alternator pulley. I didn't take my belt completely off as you did. I saw no need in that. I got everything back together and the truck won't crank because the battery is too weak. Gonna jump it off and see if it stars charging or if it got too weak to hold a charge. Good video. It was simple and to the point.

Total thumbs up. I just received the replacement alternator from 1A. Absolutely perfect match with the old Motorcraft, bolted in exactly. The directions in this video were spot on and very clear and easy to follow. I had the old one out and the new one installed in about an hour (second vote for not removing the serpentine belt, just take it off the alternator pulley and leave it in place). I'll gladly do business with this company again

It is a helpful video, I did not go under the truck to remove or replace the belt. I also did not see any reason in removing the belt since it just dropped out of the way.

Great video. 👍 Tips for future viewers: 1. No need to go underneath your truck or thread the breaker bar through the bottom. You can release the tension on the belt from the top. 2. You really ought to consider changing the belt, idler and tensioner pullies at the same time. 3. You also don't need a pry bar for anything. Tools for this job are: a 1/2" breaker bar, 8mm, 10mm & 13mm sockets (battery bolts 8mm, alternator, tensioner pulley and engine cover 10mm, idler pulley 13mm), a medium extension and a ratchet to fit your sockets. 4. Make sure the grooves on the belt line up with the grooves on the pullies. 5. When you go to buy parts you need your truck's year, engine size, number of grooves on the pulley and how many amps the OE alternator was. The amperage can be obtained by calling the dealer with the last eight numbers of your vin.

did this, no need to take to the belt all the wa, just sit it right under the alternatior, and i didnt have to take the air filter off the alternator slid past the throttle body hose. i did remove the throttle cable wires

Aye I’ve got it close to off but calling quits for the night, thanks for the help. Also u don’t have to disconnect the air thing on the back, you just push to the side and only disconnect 1 wire not 2. Also u can not take the pulley all the way off, I just took off the top

Good video and easy to follow instructions. But the entire serpentine belt did not have to be completely removed. Take a string and tie it around the belt before loosening the tension. have the string tied up above to something, maybe the hood, and have it tight. Then when the pulley tension is loosed, the belt won't fall off of any pulleys. Just pull the belt off the alternator wheel and remove alternator.

Do you need to take off that bracket when i did mine i only took off the 1 bolt close to the alternator and it slides right out. Then when i put in the new one i put the top bolt in first and that will line up the bottom two bolts. This alternator was probably the easiest one i have done, you know how i know? Not one cuss word out of my mouth when i replaced it lol. A water pump i did once was at least a 50 cuss word install LOL

I have 1990 Ford F150 4x4 5.0 xlt lariat long bed ext cab. The Chilton repair manual says Pivot bolt 58 ft ibs Adjusting bolt 25 ft ibs wire terminal nuts 60-90 inch ibs. My top bolt is very short maybe 2 inches and the bottom bolt is about 5 inches long. Is the bottom bolt the pivot or adjusting bolt? I thought the top bolt was the pivot bolt. Can you please help me?

Why did you remove the belt? This is a 15 min job if you keep the belt in place, slide the new alternator in and slide the belt over the pulley. Did I miss something as to why it's removed completely,

Not sure why you would take the belt off when you're just replacing the alternator. Just take the belt off the alternator pulley by backing off the tensioner with a bar.
