Whether you use k-1 1-k, red dye or usld, add 70%:or 90% rubbing alcohol and some essential oil and it burns clean, no odor, no wick fouling. Been doing it for decades!!
@donhammer1862 жыл бұрын
How much alcohol do you add to a gallon of fuel?
@ventman9292 жыл бұрын
@@donhammer186 3-5 oz of 70%, then i add 5-10 drops essential oil. definately takes the edge off the smells. i find vanilla and citrus oils work best in kerosene or ULSD. do some testing to see whats best for your application.

I've had zero issues with odor using the Klean Heat and zero soot, whether running or shutting it off. Downside though it doesn't seem to throw off as much heat as 1-K. In a garage I'd probably stick with the 1-K but don't want to have to repaint the ceilings again if using the heater indoors.
@bensantiago45572 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the Klean heat and won't now. Just stick with what works.I always put my heater near my door when I shut it off with screen door propped open and blow my fan towards door for a couple minutes and that sends any shutoff smell out the door

klean heat fuel smelled horrible in my brand new dura heat heater like you have compared to k1 kerosene. I switched to k1 and it’s better. This was at correct combustion and the wick raised all the way up to 1/2”-1” flames above the burner.

Did you try using isopropanol alcohol added to the kerosene ??? I add 1 to 2 ounces of 100 percent isopropanol alcohol to a gallon and there is next to no smell. Also, I take out the heater when I am ready to turn off the unit. Then you are one hundred percent sure there is no smell.

The K-1 Kerosene I bought at Blaine's Farm&Fleet emits a horrible odor while it's burning it must be a really low quality fuel. Any suggestions on brands that have no odor while burning we use it for our Deitz lanterns. thank you

Quick question, I’m new to kerosene heaters but I bought the 23k btu Red Stone heater with the jug of 1-K fuel. My question, is it safe to run all night indoors? I’m scared of carbon monoxide while I sleep.

Any kerosene heater needs to me moved outside when shut down. The aweful smell on shutdown is just the case.
@knight73892 жыл бұрын
Light the heater outside and let it burn for 10-15mins then bring it inside the when you turn it off take it outside and let it cool down and you will have no smell
@dougprentice13632 жыл бұрын
@@birdwing98 yep, just take it outside to shut it off.

I have three vintage kerosun radiant 8's that are almost mint condition. I use klean heat in all three for emergency heat and/or when its just cold outside (30 or below). Only a very, very faint smell when its turned off inside...and that's with my nose within 2ft of heater and lasts for maybe 30 seconds. Maybe it depends on different types of heaters and how one turns the heater off? I crank my wick all the way down to turn off. I do not use the emegency saftey mechanism/lever (button on some models) to turn them off.

I get my kerosene from local gas station that actually has it at the pump. It’s like $5.39 a gallon and I was surprised that it doesn’t smell near as much as either of the two kinds from Walmart. And then I add kerosene treatment which has a bunch of different scents you can choose from and that kills the smell even more!
@hazel5552 жыл бұрын
I think the kind at some gas stations is a different grade from 1-K. All the owner's manuals that came with my different units say that regular kerosene will cause issues with unit/wick.
@mharris50472 жыл бұрын
@@hazel555 Most gas station pump kerosene is 2-K which smells more and in some states has a red dye in it for taxation identification purposes. I have heard that with modern kerosene heaters 2-K will clog the wick but it didn't with the old Aladdin heaters I used to use in my garage. I have also run into gas stations with #2 diesel in their kerosene pumps. You definitely don't want to use #2 diesel in your house, it will stink. I never used a kerosene heater in my house so it didn't matter much which kerosene I ran in my old heaters.
@hxd93212 жыл бұрын
@@hazel555 it’s not a different grade, if it says that it’s 1-k, that means it’s 1-k. At my gas station it even has a label on the pump that says “1-k kerosene, for use with unvented heaters.”

Were switching over from klean to 1k. There is still a little bit of kleanheat. Would it be ok to mix? How do I safely switch gas without changing the wick?

I bought my first Kerosene heater this year and ran k1 Kerosene. That darn thing stinks bad. We all got head aches. Is that normal for Kerosene or think it just burning the new off? I've never been around Kerosene heater til now. Kinda of scared to use it now... Dyna-glo heater BTW
@franny52952 жыл бұрын
You're supposed to burn the first tank outside. That's what I heard on another channel.
@brucesheehe63059 ай бұрын
Klean heat is very expensive. It is ultra-refined kerosene - almost Jet Fuel quality. It is really great in Aladdin lamps and kerosene pressure lanterns. Use regular K1 in the kerosene heater. I always start and shut down my kerosene heaters outside to avoid the odor. The newer fiberglass wicks last a very long time - clean the wick every few tanks of kerosene by burning them clean outside. Read your manual.
@DougHinVA Жыл бұрын
K-1 kerosene is a lot cheaper and has nearly no smell and burns very clean. Diesel can be treated with easily available additives and does burn hotter than kerosene. But be careful.
