Yea, if it is visible, all steps should be consistent.

I agree with you. Any steps or projections in a course should continue the entire length of the course. The shadow lines will read like a mistake if the overhang is only on part of the course.

How long it took to plumb up that corner, now that's professional! Builders in any trade could take a lesson from that one little step of the project... take the time to get properly set up, and the whole job moves along better and faster.

Ryan, i am glad the homeowner decided to do that back wall, and tie all the brickwork together. I am not a brick layer or a structural engineer, but i like the way you stepped out the brick courses a ¼" at a time, i heard a mason from Pennsylvania say, if dry laid brick will stay together without motar, including corbelling, than with mortar, i do think the ¼ "corbell" is perfect, rather than try to tacking a 2x4on the brickledge... that wouldn't stay put without mortar, thanks for posting and sharing this video job, the deck will hide, and down spouts hide too

Always hated when the brick ledge was only 3.1/2 inches amazing how many framers don’t get it supposed to be 41/4 inch ledge brick is 3.1/2 wide 1/4 inch overhang on foundation gives you 1 inch air space👍🍻🇨🇦

You plumb from the soffit down , period , and if there walls are out of plumb you run your brick the same ,that way it doesnt show up on the windows and doors as far as brick reveal

You will be fine with the brick hacked over since it gets a deck over it. You just know that the owner or builder of the house will see it BEFORE the deck gets put on though. I'm like you Ryan, would rather have the brick one way or another ( hacked over all the way ,or flush all the way down the wall on the second course. Just remind the owner what you were up against on the bad concrete job and tell him no one will ever see it once the deck is in place. Tell them that they can just put an extra bit of dirt at the bottom to cover up that boo boo. Cheers!
