This Is What A 40,000 Mile Oil Change Looks Like!!
#oilChange #oilFilter #oilTest
In this video I change the oil on my car and take an oil sample to get tested which is called an oil analysis. The results were a bit surprising.

My 05 Vue has 247,000 mi. Regular changes of Mobil 1 synthetic and matching Mobil 1 oil filter since I acquired it about 3 years ago every 3,000 miles (still have that old 60s, 70s number in my head). The two previous owners were grandparents, who traveled the country visiting their grand children, they collectively put 222,325 miles on it. The motor is super clean inside, clearly the two prior owners took good care of it. It still passes emissions inspections yearly cleanly and easily. The emissions inspector cannot believe the car has as many miles as it does, stating that many newer cars with far less miles fail inspection. Happy for you on your GMC Truck, should last you many thousands more miles. And thanks for sharing this experience with all of us! Greatly appreciated , Sir.

I've used Blackstone in the past with my 10W-30 Hi Mile Mobil 1. The spec that goes out first is total dissolved solids. It shows I can run the M1 for about 8000 miles regardless of time, which is up to 2 years for me. 1995 K2500 Suburban 7.4L TBI. Recently I've been adding a half bottle of ZDDP additive per oil change as I'm at 160K miles +. (Hyd flat tappets, old school) After my complete tune-up, everything runs perfectly. What a pleasure to drive !. I sometomes add some syn outboard motor oil to the gas, in a ratio of 500:1. This for upper cyl lube and high detergent cleaning. Worked so good, I plugged a cat with loose carbon. I've got a new cat on there now but am not requiored to run one after 25 years.

If you live in the US, thats not true. If a vehicle came with a cat, regardless of age, it has to remain compliant with the smog controls that were in place at time of manufacture. I just this year had to replace the cat on my 83 Eldorado, so it would pass its smog test, and its 40 years old.

Yes letting a car sit undriven for long periods is bad for many of its parts. Many people believe that it's a good idea to run the engine for a few minutes every couple months but this is also not a good idea. Much better to run it for 20+ minutes (being driven, preferably) so that the engine AND THE OIL get nice and hot. It's almost better not to run it at all if you aren't going to let it get fully hot. Also you say the used filter is very well-made but I did not see any mention of the brand and type of oil filter.

New vehicle which had sat for over a year manufactor time period and possibly only 20 miles on the vehicle ? Also New vehicle with synthetic oil what is the recommended miles of travel between changes? Are they similar to your 7000 mile amount ? Many Canadian kms suggest 12000 kms between oil intervals which would be similar to a 7000 mile service ? Great video. Purchace a oil filter catch boot it saves a mess

Yea, full synthetic & 100% synthetic are two different things. If an oil is a class III synthetic oil it means that the base oil is crude oil. A class IV or V signifies the base oil is in fact synthetic; Therefore a true 100% synthetic. The MSDS sheets on the products breaks it down & most could be found online. Valvoline full synthetic is a true 100% synthetic.

I agree with filter pre fill some say possible contamination but pouring oil into the engine is possible contamination plus very few oil filter manufacturers don't plastic seal the filter air borne contamination in an unsealed box is far more than pouring oil into the filter.
@claytoncoolidge992
@claytoncoolidge992 2 жыл бұрын
Flaw in your logic is this. Pouring oil into the filter you can add contamination that is on the wrong side of the filter and from there goes straight to the main bearings. Even manufacturers say to not prefill the filter and there's no reason to do so. The very short time that it takes to fill the filter and hit the bearings is less time than it takes for cold oil to circulate on start up and being that you should never do an oil change on a cold engine that wasn't just running the bearings still have oil in them and won't be dry. As a shop owner and technician myself I've seen the results of prefilled oil filters and it is not pretty. Do what you do at your own risks but I don't advise it.

@@brucek.hoffman5868 your comparison isn't straight up. Your comparison is like saying a brain surgeon hasn't ever caused any problems with brain removal and then saying the average person would not cause problems. As a technician and shop owner I have to make sure that any advice I give is sound. Thats a standard set by law and it creates the need to base any advice on the principle that most people know nothing about the subject matter and that as the person who has the knowledge to offer such advice that the average person is not going to use that advice and to easily cause damage. So no most people should not be prefilling oil filters. Most aren't in an environment that is able to provide enough protection from foreign material to enter the filter. The average diy person is laying in a dirt driveway on the ground with minimal amount of lift for the vehicle and limited line of sight. They are most likely going to knock the oil filter against other things that have lots of dirt ect on them or drop ect. Some vehicles the filter is in a horrible location and even with every ability a shop has its hard to prevent the introduction of foreign material into them. Though the final part of my response to your statement is im concerned with the simple claim that your buddy as a technician is saying that he's never seen an engine fail from foreign material introduction. Thats very very concerning because most engine damage is due to some kind of foreign material wether it be sludge water debris ect. Theres no definite way to claim that something was introduced in the system via the oil filter. Its based of an educated guess. Finding dirt in an engine bearing on a well used engine that has just suffered bearing failure its safe to say that it likely came in via the oil filter getting contaminated. Finding dirt in a bearing on a freshly assembled engine thats not going to be the likely thing that occurred. Doesn't mean that it wasn't 100% just most likely. Also the fact that most contamination isn't even necessarily visible or big enough that one can see it. In order for anything to really get into the tight places that live in the bearing clearance area to cause damage it has to be very very tiny. So im going to be more concerned about anything that's liquid or that could cause a chemical problem than any other type of contamination. Things like salt water from the roads dripping down things of that nature. How can I make the statement that I have seen the damage done from contamination introduction from a filter? When you find rust in an engine thats been running recently there's no way for that to happen where the oil is in contact with the metal unless there was something that got into the oil such as salt thats corrosive and the most likely place for that to occur would be the oil filter as most are on the bottom of the engine and easy to have a chunk of slushy salty stuff dripping and potentially enter the filter.

Well, it's a good idea to "document" inside of your book, of each vehicle. I do it with each, and every vehicle I own, be it car/truck/motorcycle. It's a good idea, this way you can see if something is going wrong,,,, like if your gas mileage begins to change for the worst, you 'll be able to check on your book, look back and see what you "have/haven't" done in a while.

At every 3000 mile oil change I use prolong engine treatment. The absolute best in preventing dry start ups. This stuff conditions oil and literary sticks to the metal engine parts better than ANYTHING on the market. Proven to be the best for years and years. Been around a long time. Check it out. I've been using it for a long time and my engine has never sounded and ran smoother. Tons of research out there. They have a transmission and fuel additive too.
@SanProsan1993
@SanProsan1993 2 жыл бұрын
Be careful. I know for a fact that Prolong works, but it comes with a price... If your vehicle is driven at least 15 miles per day, then you're good. But if it a short tripped vehicle - then Prolong may be doing more harm than good. In vehicles that get short tripped or sit for long time Prolong causes rust and corrosion on various internal engine components. If a vehicle is a "garage queen", then bearings are usually the first to go from Prolong.

@@jamesm568 super tech lol you obviously have no clue about motor oil. Please don't advise anyone to use that. Its not the oil that is the issue usually. Its the additives like the detergents that become almost no comparison to Amsoil. Like I've already stated only one comes close. Literally every other oil is trash. Only complaint with amsoil is price but compared to new rings, boring, sleeves, seals etc its worth it. Especially if you get a car new. Once damage is done its done. Thats why you can't by amsoil at Walmart or any auto store

@@oobootysnacksoo9126 I have no clue about motor oil? I think you need to do a scientific analysis on these high-dollar motor oils and you will find out there is absolutely no difference in them when it comes to protection in everyday vehicles. If you need a special type of oil the manufacturer will specified what type of specialty oil to use. It has been proven time after time after time and debunked that Super Tech oil is no different than the majority of your premium oils until you start getting into specialty oils.

The automotive industry wants engines to fail. They do not profit with longevity of vehicles. If what you assume to be true how could intervals go from , 3 month 3k miles to 5k to 10k to 20k annual.
