Is the 2000-2006 Toyota Tundra a future classic? I get a little over-excited in this interview and talk too much. Sweet truck.

I have a 2000 with 315K, still runs awesome!! Perfect really!! 3k road trip through Baja Mexico, off road about 40%. 2800 miles total from Utah. Down and back, burned zero oil ! Did not add 1 drop? Seriously? Does not leak any fluid's! That is on 35" tires with a rear auto locker, heavily loaded! I love this truck, I actually use it to commute, over my brand new Nissan Titan diesel. I have wheeled this truck on some very serious Moab trails, parked it On Top Of The World! Pulled Boats, Recovered Super Duty's from sandy beaches, hit deer(Truck Totaled 2019, repaired for $350, and a little work) Original air conditioning , blows cold enough to RT, even when it is 100+, and it's a black truck!? I am a professional Auto mechanic for the last 30 years, owned my own shop for 20 years, worked on Ford, Chevy, Dodge(Ram), Nissan, and everything else. Toyota completely kicks everyone else's ass!!

Nice Tundra! I have the same tail lights as you do. I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra SR5 V-8 4X4 Double Cab with 97,000 actual Miles on it. I'm the original owner. Thus far, it has been one of the best Trucks I've ever owned. It has the Factory Tow Package on it too. It is the perfect truck for what we do. Tow, Snow, 4-wheel... it does it all well. From the Factory it came with about 285hp. Toyota TRD offered one option I wish I would have got when I made the purchase though. TRD offered a Supercharger for my Tundra. If I recall correctly it added about 150hp. Wish I would have jumped at it when I had the chance! Mileage... that's where things get interesting. Before the bigger tires, we could, on a flat road, with no wind and the cruise set at 55mph, get 20mpg. Bigger tires, K&N Cold Air Kit and Borla Cat back exhaust made that change. We now get about the same mpg as you do!

Mileage 246k sitting on oldman lift and 33"s. 🐐Trucks are simply one of the best even when compared to the newer trucks in my honest opinion!! Alot of the newer trucks have just gotten too big with wide hips and you simply don't want to take the investment of $50k-$70k bankroll down a trail or hunting. Sorry for the rant 😆

I love my tundra. I got an 05 that relatively stock other then the exhaust and a cold air intake. I get around 16-18 city and 18-20 on highway. It does great in the woods. Only 2 things I don’t like about it is the fender flares I got on it and the honeycomb plastic bumper. I plan on replacing the fender flares with some thinner ones or just removing them all together and welding the holes closed. I also plan on eventually getting custom built front and rear bumpers with possibly a winch and led light pods. As of now I got a light bar and 2 led pods on the front honey comb. Then I got some reverse lights. They all work great.

I bought my 2001 Tundra in 2003, with 21,000 miles on it. I've been very good at keeping up with the maitenance, and still driving it on gnarly backcountry roads. I used to tow my camper trailer with my ATV in the bed, and it would cause the rear end to sag, so I added an extra leaf spring in the rear suspension; I've also added exhaust headers, and bully bars side steps. Otherwise, it's bone stock and it's still going strong. I have a couple of videos showing the type roads I drive it on.

Nice video! I had a first gen tacoma crew cab 8 years back and I was trying to find one again. You are correct the tacomas are overpriced if you find one so I "settled" for a 2004 tundra crew cab. Best decision and a way better value. Has 178k miles on it. Had 90k miles on the timing belt so I had it changed and told the mechanic to keep it so I could look at it. Belt still looked new, no cracks or anything.

@jtark93413 жыл бұрын
@@gettothepoint4562 I have the 4wd. One size larger tires and I average 13.5 the last two times I went on the same 225 mile trip. 100 miles of that was with the cruise set at 80 (that's our speed limit on the interstate here in South Dakota). Greg- I bought my 01’ Tundra when I was 16 because my dad insisted it was one of the best trucks he’s ever owned (Currently 20, my dad owning a 10’). I’ve tried to run the cheaper route the best I’ve could and it’s worked out well for me so far. -Rough county 2.5” puck spacer- $280 (If you do a puck spacer, make sure to do upper control arms, it’ll ruin your ball joints) JBA uppers-$518 Bull bar style brush guard (if you live in the country) -$130 OERDO 23” light bar (can mount to bull bar) -$65 BFG KO2s- best tire I’ve owned, definitely lives up to the hype Vision Manx 398- roughly $750 beadlock style, similar to the FJ cruiser TRD beadlock at a reasonable price. I never pulled the trigger but I’ve always wanted to All light housing replacement (if you have yellowed headlights)- $180 I replaced all 6 housing units (4 in the front, 2 in rear). It definitely helps the truck not show it’s age as much. That’s just some of the stuff I’ve done. Cosmetic stuff is cool and all but in my opinion, maintenance comes first. What’s the point in having a cool truck if it doesn’t even run lol. One example of a big thing I’ve put off for a while is a timing belt ($1200-$1500 at a shop). I’m going to do it on my own but I’m planning on $300 in supplies and 10 hours of my time. The 4.7 is known to last a while, just make sure you keep up on the maintenance. Hope this helps!
@nozrep Жыл бұрын
with the recent inflationary times still going on, these things have unfortunately been way overpriced in the used market, imo. 7k? Very good price imo! But I found one the other day, an ‘05, listing at 20k, crazy. Like I said in my other comment I really like the first gens, but for a 17 year old vehicle even with “relatively” low miles to be priced at 20k? nope. Not me anyways.
