Yes, we did! Long story short, I think it’s a much better fit for second grade and I wish I had realized that sooner. While she did eventually catch up with the reading level by the end of first grade, she did not have the stamina or fine motor skill (lots of writing) to do the curriculum. I wish I had known all of this in advance because I definitely would have saved it! I think it could work better for a precocious reader, and you could perhaps ask all of the questions orally! I mean that’s basically how- if you’re second guessing something, explore that further. For example, my kids don’t do well with super long read alouds. So that basically rules out like all the read aloud books for many of the grades. I also pick readers by topic I know my kids will love. So for example I got several different animal protagonist books for my 9 year old & he just finished Crenshaw! Then there’s my considerations for them having a well rounded education. So yes, I definitely want them exposed to classics, but I also want them exposed to books about different things. Stella By Starlight and Wonder were literally life changing books for our family. My 8 year old stood up to a group of children at a playground after they surrounded a little girl with the same condition as the boy in Wonder. 🥲 So I try to look at the big picture, think about what my kids will like, think about books they’ve already read/been read to from, and think about what I’d like them to know. And then there’s also the looping, my new best friend 🤣 Hope this helps!! 🙏🏻💜

Both the grade’s curriculum guide and the enrichment guide have the books listed by week, but only the enrichment guide has the discussion questions & extension activities.
