Great spirit of adventure. Last weekend, a group of overlanders came through my little Alaskan town for their event, The Alcan 5000, including a couple new Landys. I met them for dinner with my old Series 2a, and we had a grand time- instant friends.

I missed Oxford’s journey across the USA , it was so close to where I live and I was unable to see it; what a loss to me, I want to cry!

Excellent video. It’s a legend of a vehicle. I agree. Having a classic vehicle is like having your very own therapist. The feeling and the smells are enough to make all your worries go away. “Normal” People don’t understand it and never will. 😀

Great story well told. This vehicle belongs in a museum. As a series Landrover owner, owning the same vehicle for 30 years, I fully undertand your love for these old landrovers. It's a shame that modern cars are so soul-less.

Excellent video. Just perfect. It’s true, vintage vehicles aren’t as reliable and easy to drive but you explained it very succinctly. Tons of character and an experience you can get with a modern 4 x 4. I have an old Land Cruiser that I’m restoring, but there’s just something about a Land Rover that takes me back to my youth watching adventure series and safaris on TV and in the movies and watching these guys driving across Africa and South America in these. Nothing like them.

Also, really good choice of background music, low key and complementary rather than trying to take over, the story is the focus and it is a beautiful story, the music should not take over and it does not, nicely done, thank you.

Awesome vehicle. Had a chance to meet the crews and sat in it during the last Land Rover trip back to London from Singapore, at the second stop over in Johor Bahru, Johor.

Good to see Oxford again. I had a brief drive of it a couple of years ago, what an honour. I'd like to do some longer trips in my series trucks in the future.

In terms of what happened to the Cambridge vehicle there is one piece of data - Terence Bendixson apparently became the owner of Cambridge and after his 3-man expedition split up, he was driving his car back to the UK alone. Terence says was travelling in the Middle East at night to escape the heat of the day - he said in an interview that while traveling in (Iran?) the car went off the side of the road and rolled down the ravine. He was evacuated out in such bad condition - he was lucky not to lose his leg - that he has no idea of where he was, or the condition the car was in. So either the car is still down that ravine or more likely dragged out and sold for scrap/ cut up - but perhaps its still running around in the mountains of Iran

Loved this. I have a ‘56 series 1 but am nowhere near brave enough to do any of what those guys set out to do. Hats off to them, and to the modern day group who reprised the journey.

Thanks for sharing this great video - I have viewed most of the videos on the net and I also own a short wheelbase station wagon from 1956. While it is great to see the vehicle in the hands of someone who really appreciates the importance and history of the vehicle, it is a bit disappointing that it is in the US and not in an appropriate venue in the UK - this is not to be critical of current ownership because they clearly understand and appreciate the vehicle and it is safe, but one day I hope it goes back to the UK and to a suitable venue that will celebrate its history. You definitely get a thumbs up from me :-)

My first "car" what is a Jeep station wagon. My father's an expert in spray painting (thank you dear) painted it copper metallic with a rich cream trim. I have already fall in love with real Land Rover bodies and love my Jeep because it had had real fenders. I was president of the senior class in high school and my Jeep and I where are the heroes of the day. I wish I could find my copper metallic wonder car today. BTW there are several classic Land Rovers, With fenders, still living and working now in Thailand. I knew I loved Land Rovers with fenders when I saw yet perform in HATARI hey John Wayne movie capturing African animals with the guide on the front flat Fender. How can you feel you are on a real expedition unless you're a vehicle looks like one of the two pictured here? Any real vehicle without a WINCH cannot be a real vehicle. Long live vehicles with flat Fender and a tough additude that will take you through any terrain.

Nicely done mate! Any idea what’s the OEM for the Land Rover Defender Series 2a jack? I’ve been trying to find the original jack but all I could find was either King Dick or Shelley. Cheers, Peter.

Sorry, but a Series IIA is not a Defender. Defender was from 1990 onward and was a name applied to the 90/110/127 which is a completely different vehicle.

I think it was a Dixon Bate screw Jack. I had one in an early Range Rover. It came with a long two piece handle to wind it up and down.

Thanks for posting. So cool to see it in the states. The last time Cambridge was seen it was in the bottom of a ravine somewhere along the Iran/Turkey border. Check out Graeme Aldous's videos available on (www.teeafit.co.uk) or Vimeo. He did an extended "First Overland" DVD and an "After Overland" DVD where they discuss how they found Oxford and he interviews Terence Bendixson the last guy to see Cambridge in person.

I'm sorry but this recent story telling of "First Overland" being the first long expedition is a marketing bullshit. From a very long time a lot of people did it, they were not the firsts to dream of traveling across the world as far as possible. If you want really the firsts ones look at Citroën "Croisière noire" in 1924-1925 crossing Africa from north to south and the "Croisière jaune" in 1931-1932 that went up to Beijing by car.
