Congratulations again for this outstanding game and victory! It was so much fun to watch you playing and winning Wololo V! Game number eight though you lost as Teutons. This took place on June 12, 2021 vs. Vinchester on Arena. He was playing the Mayans and the game took only 13 realtime minutes (it went from 13:31:57 till 13:45:16). Can anybody find it on KZfaq or Twitch?

See, this is how Teutons feel like they are meant to be played - taking advantage of high armor units and free herbal medicine to fight underneath the shadow of a forward castle. They don't move around with a horde like the Mongols, they don't make a big archer deathball, they just make slow melee units while the castle handles anything that has range. Teutonic Knights and Crenelations is a favorite of mine as of late. A castle full of Teutonic Knights fires a crazy ton of arrows, whereas the Knights themselves can be released to drop rams, infantry, and cavalry at any time; when they're hurt, right back into the castle! Only real problem is Trebs; kind of have to be able to win that Treb war, or else be ready to dive.

I saw this game from Hera's end first, fun to see this one from yours too :D

Teutons seem pretty strong, even if the knights are slow they are still faster than an archer and beat most melee units with the +2 armor. Cheap farms with a very open tech tree. And then there's infantry, siege, monk, tower, castle and conversion resistance bonuses. Main issues are archery range and lack of good trash, need a lot of gold to build Teuton death ball with paladin's/infantry, siege/gunpowder and monks, probably want to castle drop too.

I feel like AOE4 will be harder to balance regarding making it balanced for both pro players and the average player because the civs are so different with some being much easier than others to play well. If they nerf the civs with a high skill ceiling because pros can actually reach it, it will harm the balance for non-pros who are then stuck with the lower floor.

aoe4 is fun to play but aoe2 is just on a whole other level as a spectator sport.

Calling it now. Viper wins either the semi or the finals of kod4 with teautons....maybe he will win both with. During interview he pretended to say teutons are best civ needed to save for desider sarcastically. However he wasnt being sarcastic. If you check aoe game in he has almost never lost with them. In tourments it is the same. He last picks them in tournaments because he doesn't want anyone to know its his best civ. 8D chess.

to answer your first question. As a business decision all in AOE4. AOE2 has always been there and will continue to be there but you could catch lightning in a bottle with AOE4 and add to your fan base. This is coming from someone who likes AOE2 more but business is business.

This is the game I like unlike aoe4

With the ongoing "I can't tell units apart from each other in AoE4!" debate I've been firmly in the "We felt the same way about DE; give it time" camp from the start... but I've got to say seeing an AoE2 match again after 3 weeks of AoE4 something really clicked for me: In AoE2, no matter what civ you're playing as or against, pikes look like pikes, monks look like monks, knights look like knights, archers look like archers. Other than unique units, the same unit looks exactly the same for every civ, and that does wonders for unit clarity and recognition. It's ironic that one of the major limitations of the older sprite-based games (not having texture space to have a faction-specific version of every unit) actually kind of works in its favor with regards to unit recognition. That said, keep playing what you want to play Viper, and let the haters on both sides suck it. AoE2 may be timeless, but there's still a lot to discover in AoE4 and that journey is worth experiencing too. And at the end of the day, your fans watch you for your personality, humor, and insight, and that works no mater what game you play.
