Just picked up a “distressed” 54” for $1000 at my local HD. Full warranty on mower and batteries. So far it’s been great!

Amazing just purchased on 42" 1 week 1/2. .Cut the grass with just 52% and was able to do the front yard and ended at 10% in an 1 hour time. I have the same thoughts and feelings about my tractor. I hope I can use it for at least 5 yrs. I felt pretty confident after using it that I can almost say never going back to gas. Thank you so much for your time. I feel more confident.

I just picked up the Ryobi 30in. I have a little under an acre. Just mowed once so far. This is great glad I went with the electric. After my experimental mow I had 38% battery left. I do have the 2 Added 40V's in it. It used up the 40's first. once I get a rhythm down I can cut that timer in half. Had one small collision, not much, but I tell ya, those bulkhead cement foundations do not move, lol

Great video. Covers pretty much every question I have about this model. I currently run a Kawasaki-powered Country Clipper 42" mower and would love one of these. Cost is a little prohibitive though (over $12,000 in Australia). I'll start saving my pennies today!

Hi Dane, thank you for the video. I have the 42'' model, and love it. I used a rubber strap with the hooks on it to hold up or raise the chute as needed.

I have the same one and all three of my batteries got the E-5 error code less than 3 months of having it and was able to get 3 replacement batteries easily also depending how high the grass is depends on the coverage of a cut. I only use 25% cutting about an acre so it checks out.

I have 2 acres to mow (minus concrete driveway, a house and a separate garage). I'm already the 3rd owner of this same mower you have here. His story for selling is that he had other smaller Ryobi electric mowers (I saw them), and this one was overkill for his 1/2 acre. Seemed believable, and his nice house and property were in a new neighborhood. He let me mow his yard before I bought it. Seemed to run fine. That joystick wasn't my favorite thing, but I bought it anyway thinking I just need to get used to it. I've mowed only twice with it so far at home. The catch with the mower is that it was missing 2 of the 40v batteries. When I asked him about it before I bought it, he said the guy he bought it had kept 2 of them for other things. So... I didn't get an acre mowed the first time before the batteries were dead. That was on low drive speed and fast blade speed. The 2nd time mowing I used medium blade speed and medium drive speed, and didn't spend much time trimming around our many trees. Most I just went to one side and kept going. I was cruising as fast as it would go other than when I was near obstacles (at a speed I know my wife would never drive it). I managed to get at least 3/4 of the lawn mowed before the batteries were done. That joystick is not nearly as controllable as 2 bars are (like our 54" gas we still have). I have a hard time keeping the mower pointed exactly in the direction I want it to go. There is no spring-centering in the joystick, which I think would help immensely! I also don't really like the fact that you can let go of the joystick and the mower keeps going where you last left the joystick at. If someone has a heart attack, that thing could easily be in a runaway situation. I would much rather that at least the left-right motion would have spring-centering to help in keeping it pointed straight forward. The damping seems excessive, and after a while I get tired of forcing the joystick back and forth having to constantly overcome it. I really don't think my wife (who normally does 90% of our mowing with the gas zero-turn) can ever get used to this joystick. Also, if I buy 2 40v batteries to max the mower's range, I'm still not sure we can get the entire yard done at once at the speed that my wife would cruise with it. Especially if taking the time to trim around the trees (which is the point of a zero-turn!). I'm thinking I just need to clean it up and sell it so someone else can see if they like it enough to keep it. It's too bad... with a bit more battery capacity and a much better joystick setup (mechanical and software), it could be a great mower for us to keep so we could get rid of our aging gas mower. Looks like reasonably-priced electrics just aren't quite there yet for large yards.

I'm on year 7 or 8 with a Snapper electric push mower and bought my mom the self-propelled version for Christmas this past year. Electric has been ready when it comes to yard work and the only thing that I have not converted yet is the riding mower. Now that HD has SIGNIFICANTLY dropped the price on this I am strongly considering this mower as this is the one I want. Still a ton of money though.

This mower is on sale at Home Depot for $4999!!! I knew they were going to come down in price because the avg. person can’t afford $8000!! Only reason for me to buy one is because my ears are very sensitive to noise and they ring very loud with gas engine even with ear plugs and ear muffs on! Great video!

How do you feel now, 11 months later? Mower is on sale for a good discount currently. Do you think the cross cut blade adapters are a big enough issue to avoid this mower? How hard are they to install the blade adapters, if they do break? Again, 11 months later, how do you feel about the joystick? Would you buy another mower with it?

we also purchased an 80v 30 in. one of the batteries stopped discharging and ryobi is replacing it. ryobi is quick to respond. we also live in FL. the battery worked fine until after around the 6th use, .32 acre tall grass using high blade and medium motor, uses 80% both batteries. when the one quit discharging, only able to do half. i wish the control menu was on the opposite side so i can change speeds on the fly without stopping or letting go the stick. a foot throttle would be nice. traction is horrible turning on inclines. also needs brighter lights with side and rear lighting.

I have been using a Ryobi 40v push mower on my little 1/4 acre yard for 2 years now and I will NEVER go back to gas. Way less maintenance and way more convenient. I can easily cut the yard with about 50% left on the 6Ah battery that came with the mower.

You answered almost all my questions but Thing I’m still curious about is the Bluetooth. Does it just connect to the app or are there speakers in there to play music?

A shear pin like outboard motor propeller drive would work well and be simple and quick to change (you can do it on the boat in the ocean ) better for ryobi to sell bigger more expensive propriety spare parts.

I bought the lawntractor version. Had issues with it getting lost in shipping. When I finally received it, I also had a discharge issue on one of the 80v batteries. Been waiting a month for the replacement and still haven't received it. Ryobi told me the battery is stuck in the system... glad customer service is working for you. Unfortunately I haven't had the same experience.

Does anybody else's shoulder ache after mowing due to the torque it takes to move the joy stock? Maybe mine was improperly installed.

Early in my 2nd summer with the 30” version. I really don’t care for it. Joystick isn’t accurate, tends to get stuck in uneven sections of the lawn, mulching performance is terrible, difficult to hold a straight line over rough sections ( most of my lawn) , a pain to change the blades. Had an old Dixon gas ZTR for 20 years, this doesn’t compare on any cutting or control capabilities.

I'm looking at the 42" model as while I have 2.5 acres (of course house, driveway, etc. remove from that) the 54" I think would be a bit big for some of our sodded areas. Sure would be great in our pasture area though, but going with 43" You think it would follow same review as your 54"? Of course, it has less batteries and less cutting area so I'm not expecting the same battery performance.

It's a safety necessity to not have a seatbelt. If you have a ROPS installed then you have a seatbelt so if you roll the mower over the ROPS protects you and the seatbelt keeps you secured to the mower so you don't get crushed by the rolling mower. If you don't have a ROPS and the mower flips over you need to be able to freely jump off the mower so you don't get crushed. This is the standard across the industry due to safety reasons. Just responding so it's understood why there is no seatbelt. Ultimately it sounds like they need to improve that brake.

Considering it's electric do you have to store the unit inside and out of the weather? Regarding a gas mower I can leave it outside in the rain and in bad weather and it doesn't effect the mower. What happens with that one if you leave out in the weather??

Doesn't it this model also have 4x 40 ah as well.that it accepts. So it accepts two charge styles It should be able to do 5 acres. With the 3x 80 v 10 ah and 4x40 ah?

Great video. I have the 54" one (1 year+). Love it. However, today it stopped working. The joystick shows neutral (N) no matter what I do. Anyone with similar experience? Most likely a loose wire or electric contact issue. The deck still spins. There is no error message. Help is greatly appreciated. I have no means to send in for service (under warranty) and I need it asap!

Hopefully you won't have to replace any tires you've put slime in. Chickanic did a video showing how nasty of a job it is to change a tire after that stuff has been used, and she advises everyone to NOT use that stuff if at all possible. It opened my eyes. I was thinking about it, but I definitely won't, now.

I just had a shock while talking to a Ryobi rep on the phone. Since I'm not the original purchaser, I have absolutely *NO* warranty on anything that may fail. Considering the price of replacement batteries, chargers, and other electronic parts, this is even more motivation for me to sell it to yet another owner who may be willing to accept the risk. Just a warning to others who may be considering buying one of these as a 'used' machine. I think Ryobi needs to step up and eliminate this risk to help the adoption of these types of mowers.

Go with the old Z-turn Ryobi 2 hand. It should be only < $2k. You can swap out the lead acid battery with the new Lithium battery for 1.5k and run it way better! $3.5k > $8k!

Great video but needing for a seatbelt is ridiculous at a 4 to 8mph speed....This is a walking speed.

All comparisons of EV vs gas mowers cover gas, spark plugs, oil changes, air filter, belts. But there is one common area betwen these two mowing mediums which no one seems to cover, lubrication ! All hinge points where the deck is mounted to the frame, front wheel pivot point, front wheel bearings or bushings, rear wheel bearings, seat and arm rest hinge points. Please include lubrication pros and cons also in your videos. Whether you are for or against EV all these videos are only providing part of the story

I have hesitant on buying a zero turn mower because the traditional type rewuires 2 hands. That means no free hand for my beer! Now with this model I can have zero turn and drink my beer too!

My been at dealership over 5 months , they spent over 8000 to fix and they didn't fix it , so that idiots( customer service ) finally decided replace it . RYOBI HAS MOST WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN US . I like my 80v 42 , but i wouldn't recommend it course CUSTOMER service suck

Your claim that it cost nothing to run this mower. Sorry, you are wrong. If I bought a gas mower and bought a 300-gallon tank and filled it up at $3 per gallon. I than filled my gas mower from that storage tank for a year. My cost of running it would be $900. You have batters that cost ???? and a charger and a rechargeable generator. That cost of all that is your fuel cost to run your mower. That is the truth. Take the cost of generator and batteries along. cost thousands. My est. is $900 a year for me. How many years will it take for my cost of gas to match your cost of the initial investment in batteries and generator? A guy buys a boat for $40,000.00 and say he is fishing and eating fish for free. I buy fish at fish markets at $20 buck and eat the same fish he catches. Who spent less to eat fish?
