From Tahoe City, CA to State Line, Nevada blizzard conditions made for difficult driving conditions. Cars were getting stuck all over the city in deep snow. Homes buried to the point they look like igloos from the historic snow season. The only road left open to Lake Tahoe is HWY 50 to Carson City. Hwy 50 West, I-80 and Hwy 359 are all closed leaving anyone looking to head back to California trapped around the Lake Tahoe area.

The Shining on Snow Removal: Jack Torrance: Do you mind if I ask why you do that? It seems to me that the skiing up here would be fantastic. Ullman: Oh, it sure would be, but the problem is the enormous cost it would be to keep the road to Sidewinder open. It's a, it's a twenty-five mile stretch of road, gets an average of twenty feet of snow during the winter, and there's just no way to make it economically feasible to keep it clear. When the place was built in 1907, there was very little interest in winter sports. And this site was chosen for its seclusion and scenic beauty.

In Flagstaff, 15-22 inches expected this storm, winds 17-28 mph now. Snowing hard now, Hwys are Snow packed and Icy with drifting snow squalls two feet and may close I-40, I-17 and Hwy 89 again.

Dunno what to say about the cars stranded. Lived in the midwest along the Ohio River valley driving a 327-powered hot rod; never got stuck. A bit later a TR3, same place, ditto. There are ways to apply power which do what you wish, and I'm not sure how to explain the process.

@Brother Robert - I lived there for EIGHT years and made four trips to San Francisco a month during that time and it is UNUSUAL to have that much snow. How long have you lived there?

Lived in Nor Cal for 40 plus years; it was only when the Gaia priests started predicting the rapture that numbers like this got mention. Prior to that, it was up to me to check road conditions for skiing.

As the climate heads into greater extremes globally, how can we best deal with future climate crises? The short answer is that we cannot deal with them unless we take care of nature's inner balance. We live in a tightly-closed and interdependent system in which everything boomerangs back to us. While living in such a system, we need to reconsider what we want and think, and how we treat each other, because our human connections are the primary influence on how nature responds to us. It is common to think that climate is dependent on factors outside of us-whether it be balances between heat and cold in the environment, or the effects of various kinds of pollution we emit-because we lack a complete picture of how our attitudes to each other bring about the strongest responses from nature toward us. No creature distorts nature the way that we people do. And it is not simply a matter of switching to renewable energy sources, electric cars and the like; it is a matter of how we relate to each other. If we truly wish to witness more balance throughout nature and not have to deal with all kinds of cold waves and other natural disasters, then similarly to how we have electricity, water and gas meters in our homes, we should also have meters that count how much evil we emit into the world from our negative attitudes to each other. What I mean is that if we could feel the extent to which we emit negative forces into the world, which negatively ricochet back to us, then we would wish to change this negative driver within us. We would want to switch it to a drive that makes our human connections positive, and which harmonizes us with nature. In simple terms, when we get up in the morning, we should first and foremost consider what we need to do in order for all people to have it good. Developing such an attitude is not so simple, yet we will need to seriously work on it as we head into the future. A life of increasing blows from nature or a life of peace and harmony depends on the extent to which we impact a shift in our attitudes to each other-from negative to positive.

Nice to see and it might help some areas in the short term. Sadly however It's not really in a area to help fill the Lake Mead basin that supplies most of the West & Southwest with water where they really need it. 😥

You need massive snowfall in Colorado to feed the headwaters and tributaries of the Colorado River to fill those downstream reservoirs like Lake Mead and Lake Powell. California snowfall and precipitation all ends up in western California rivers and running off into the Pacific. This snowfall will help somewhat with their local reservoirs.

It used to be normal for that area to get huge snowfalls - the Sierras of California and the Cascades of Washington and Oregon hold world records for snowfall - but the California Sierras have been stuck in a severe drought for over a decade. Many younger people don't remember the heavy snowfalls of decades past, but yes - this used to be common! This is a return to more normal conditions for the area. The area's economy has long been based on snow tourism and skiing.
