Dopamine! Same thing happens in the brain every time we see a plant we like, notice a new leaf developing, and every time we notice change in that new/unfurling leaf; same with water props and seeing roots. I got my therapist addicted to plants after explaining that to him when I saw he had a pothos. Within a month he began propping it per my instructions and gave rooted m, potted cuttings to each of his coworkers for Christmas last year! My plan is working 😈

As I am watching this video the PRO: Plant friends was on when my husband came home from work . He looked at me and said “Well did she ever make it into her house? “ I said “Who in the world are you talking about?” He responded with “ALICE” we both looked at each other than laughed.. Just just a quick update is needed!!!!

I grew a few monstera from seed back in 2017 and after that there was no turning back, I was hooked! I’ve got chronic fatigue syndrome, can’t work or do much outside the house these days, and plants was something I could do. Something I could master and accomplish. It does get very stressful sometimes as some of my plants are very uncommon, but for the most part, my plants give me some sort of purpose and let’s me be in awe of nature and plants. The resilience and sheer programming and will to live is astonishing

I'm also an introvert and I really don't like social events and such. But no one in my personal circle is a planty person. I met my planty friends at swaps. It's one of the best ways to meet new people that share a love for you hobby. Another idea is to join local plant clubs.

I wish I had plant friends like you do. I don’t have a car so I can’t go anywhere. I’m 65 I’m older than all of the people I see on instagram. Just once I’d like my sister to ask me if there was anything going on. Or ask me if I’ve got any new plants. Just once. My neighbor too. She comes over but doesn’t ask me anything. Just once.

I am sorry you feel lonely in this, do you have instagram or can you make an account? Interacting with others and posting your plants no matter how humble they are is a great way to receive feedback. I’ve made plant friends there which I don’t have in real life. You also learn a lot and see that there are others who are also alone in the hobby but no lonely if I make myself clear. Hope you find a way to connect💚

@@annaj3170 I just had a discussion with my sister when she acknowledged that my plants are making me happy. I’m going to purge some plants. I’ve got too many and you can’t really see the individual plants just a massive shelf of green. And she did offer to help me purge. She did seem to happy to help me. lol. Her idea of a houseplant is none but I bet she’s listen if I talked about them to her. Thank you for caring enough to respond to me.

This has been a great visual podcast. Thank you for talking about all of it, especially the mental health side. My adhd is so bad it causes debilitating anxiety and depression. I can relate to sleeping and plants. They help me get out of bed, too. We moved here partly so I could have a greenhouse and then found out the HOA don’t allow them unless you get approval and it can’t be seen from the street side of your fence. Just like my chickens, they got me out of bed and outside every single day. This HOA won’t allow them 😭 yet we have an acre next to farmland and a freaking petting zoo. You can hear the mini cows, donkeys, and peacocks at any given time. I asked my psychiatrist if she could write me a RX for a greenhouse like an emotional support animal. 😂 And can take it to the HOA! Feels shitty to see the 3 MASSIVE greenhouses in the neighborhood that were grandfathered in when they created the bylaws 😠

I agree so much with the pros and cons you mentioned…it really is rewarding to have changes in your plants instead of just buying something and that’s it. The awe is never gone because there’s always something new…buuuut then there’s also the uncertainty of whether or not your plant will live once you buy it lmao this entire video has been so relatable and I love it haha 🙌🏽 The plant community got kinda toxic before COVID and I just left the plant life behind almost completely. Coming back now and seeing how amazing the community is has me sooo excited to meet new people and chat and learn etc…it’s been amazing 😍

Girl, you're so spot on about collecting and not being in the right headspace. I stream games and work in the game industry and I am really burned out on gaming in the evenings. Even though I know should make videos and edit and record but I am just not in the right headspace. And then I try to find other hobbies to keep myself occupied from guilty and then I get new plants and I'll be excited and yet the day after it's like well, I now have that plant too. Now what? It's kinda toxic but I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way! Your content is just so chill all the time, so relatable. Please keep the long videos coming!

I was nervous to cut it up because I am a 1 1/2 year into pants. My plants do very well in a small bit of soil, pon, leca, pumice, zeolite, self-watering pots that you fill with water and it soaks up what it needs. My back starting aching I jumped back to bed, so I can focus on you. Thank You gf for all of your video’s. I have learned soo much.

I do wish we don’t have to do with pests with our plants. I never had this issue with succulents and cacti which were my first plants. Now i am getting into Hoyas and have more plants i am getting fungus gnats. They are so annoying I totally agree cause they get everywhere. Second is mealy bugs which i got this last winter which was a nightmare i lost my Hoya Compacta which i loved and my Hoya Krimson Queen keeps coming back after so many treatments. The next gross one is scales touch wood i never had as they stick to your plant and i see people have to scraped them off I would not do it i would just throw the plant away. My back has been killing me from doing plants chore’s these days especially after repotting and cleaning up afterwards.

Owning a business myself, yes you can write off expenses but they are still expenses and it cuts into your earnings because you need to buy these things and you don’t necessarily get that money back, you get a deductible against your earnings so you’re declaring you’re earning less so you pay less taxes.

I actually am not in PPUSA anymore! Haven’t been for awhile since all that drama back in 2020? Most of the drama I see are actually in the enthusiasts groups (Monstera enthusiasts, anthurium enthusiasts, etc)- kind of sad because these groups used to be so helpful, where lots of reputable growers would share knowledge and their decades of experience and now it sometimes feels like PPUSA (without the sales)

It's funny how you say spider mites are the most challenging pests. I rarely get them, the last time I did it was on a sad alocasia and on a gloriosum with a yellow leaf. Just took a dishwashing soap and alcohol solution and wiped the leaves clean, never saw them again. As for the other pests, I've never ran into them except for the mealy bug, which came with a newly bought subhastatum. I cleaned it off with the same solution and it never came back since. It's not a skill issue why you get pests more often though, because my pest prevention regimen is more infrequent and less complicated than yours so I really believe it just has to do with the environment you're in. Just like how you said that there's a thrip season in Canada but you never experienced it back in America. I'm very fortunate to be the one who doesn't get pests a lot, I feel like dealing with an outbreak would burn me out so quick and I'd be an anxious mess
