On the evening of July 16th, Manhattan Box 0903 was transmitted on a report of smoke on the penthouse of a Hi-Rise on Sutton Place. The 8th Battalion arrived and transmitted a 10-77 for heavy smoke pushing from the roof-line. Companies made their way to the roof and found fire pushing out a window of the elevator machine room, with an arcing condition from the building's electrical conduit. Additionally all the elevators in the building were disabled, and a smoke condition began to drift onto lower floors of the building. The main body of fire was quickly knocked down, but due to all the additional hazards a second alarm was transmitted by the third division.
