I’ve done demos & you can tell by the giant dirt pile that landed precisely where the operator was aiming for, there’s equipment that dirt was placed there to protect, kids don’t know 💩 from shineola but never let it stop y’all from blabbing then mud flaps

That second one, dropped 'exactly' where it was supposed to go, two in one . Look carefully and the back of the yellow building was already out. The one you said it doesn't take much to drop, a great chunk was already cut out and weakened.

Everything you saw went as planned. They’ll use the least amount of work necessary to demolish everything they need to. It could take twice as long (and twice the cost) to demolish two buildings separately. Some demolition crews will even collapse two structures against each other so the debris doesn’t spread as far, and so there’s less need later to break apart debris even further for removal. It’s an art form, and every project is a little different, but the basic concept is; “Destroy this as completely as possible as cheaply as possible.”

That was a well built chimney. It's almost guaranteed they'll crack at about the 2/3 point. The bottom bit will hit the ground "flat." The top section will kinda turn upwards, and it's bottom will hit the ground first. The reason is something about physics and inertia. Very unusual this chimney held together all the way down.

What happens to break the tall skinny smoke stacks is that all the parts want to hit the ground at the same time because it is a straight smoke stack. But the top has farther to go and needs to accelerate more than the bottom 1/3. Force = mass x acceleration That means that the top 1/3 is really slowing down the bottom 2/3. Since the stack cannot handle sideways forces so well it breaks. Try taking a short lenght of thick rope that will stand on its end. Then start leaning it over until it falls. It will hit the floor starting at the bottom and working its way to the top. Same thing but the smoke stack is stiffer so it breaks.

Interesting how the first tower "crumpled like paper." It seems to be just shingled wood frame. I was just reading about these. The shape is called "hyperboloid," and the amazing thing is, this shape can be framed with 100% straight boards. No fancy carpentry. You just need to ensure all the boards going in one direction cross the boards going in the other direction at the same angle. It's a pretty clever shape, normally used for cooling towers: it provides maximum surface area for the cooling, and the neck acts like a basic carburetor to accelerate the updraft - drawing in more cooling air through the bottom.
